Good idea, but isn't there any "rules" to having the monitors that close to your ears instead of taking advatnage of the size of the room you have to work with? :p

I will be pretty darn close to them, but if that doesnt matter then great!

I don't particulary know or have heard of any set distances, apart from the monitors not being too close to the wall behind them. Also ideally you will need to be about a third of the way into your room when you are sitting at the mix position.

Hey True,

Thanks for the reply and insight, I appreciate it! :)

Bought the wall paint tonight for the basement which only means that once that is painted, we can rip the carpet out (which is the same carpet in my studio area) and then we will start on the floors sometime after that, hehe

good tip on the slippery warning, never thought of that one...
Hey Cincy...you are welkom. I see from the pics above, you are making some good progress....

Obviously faster than Gorty's bass absorbers are coming along... :D

So I went to the store today with my list of everything I was goign to get to do the conrete floor painting thingy and at the last minute decided I am going back to the laminate floors

The concrete painting will be less expensive and "maybe" even look better but the laminta eshould be easier to install and be able to be completed quicker. (and doesn't look so bad either) :)

Going back to buy it tomorrow and then it needs to air out for about 48 hours (to expand or something) and then I will start the work ~~ will post pics when I get there

Looking good man. Make sure you maintain your gaps around the walls with the laminate. And make sure you basement IS DRY AND STAYS DRY or you'll be replacing that laminate quick. Dont forget the vapor barrier too.

Let me know if you need pointers on installing the laminate. I've done a few laminate floors over the last few years... :)

well thats what I thought at first too Panda until my wife showed me some pics of what she had in mind. I was thinking when she said painting that she meant to paint it gray ro some flat color, but here are examples of what she was talking about:

See how shiny they look:

btw, I'm almost positive that this is an Acid Stained concrete floor and not paint.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. yea I am noob on the laminate as well, but seems like it wont be too hard if I keep the 1/4" gap and I am putting down the padding underneath...but pointers are always welcome ;)

Panada - yea I am always that way ;)

Krem - I think its paint but in any case it does look good but was gonna take too long..maybe another time in another life I will try it ;)

So I bought the materials tonight for my new floors.

floor_mats.jpg

(My desk and countertops are pictured in the background leaning against the wall)

- Armstrong "Hickory Pine" Laminate - 220 SQ FT (11 boxes)
- Insulation/Comfort Backing - 300 SQ FT (3 Rolls-comes in 100s only)
- 8' Quarter Round (11) - cant see them but they are under the rolls
- Intsallation kit (spacers, pulley bar, cleaner) - still need to get a mallet...

Now the laminate box ends are open and "breathing" for 48 hours before I start the installation process.

More pics as I progress ~~

Hey Cincy! I see you went with the Laminate.

I must admit, I was looking forward to the artistic, acrylic journey you were about to embark on!!

But....I am still going to enjoy the steps you take in making your studio *YOU*.... :)

Thanks for the reply Raxy ~

Yea, True, me too....but it would have taked much longer than I was willing to wait, so laminate it is ;)

(now lets hope I can install this properly!) hehe

Cincy...are those 'plank' laminate rather than the square tiles?

cincy_kid said:
why yes they are. I have not seen the square kind before
Maybe not..but I thought one could purchase the squares that zig-zag the wood grains. I dunno..I like the planks better anyway. :)

Hrm, dunno True :o

Sounds cool, but hopefully these will turn out looking ok. I guess I will try to put them in eiether tomorrow or after work Monday.

I think I will go clear the room out now and snap a pic of the room colors so you can see my green and purple ;)
