well, there's a few things about the sound I'll coment on.

The rythem guitar, a little crunchy, low in the mix. it was fighting the bass, IMHO.

The lead guitar, sounds like digital, thin distortion. kind of fuzzy sounding. not that it's a bad tone, just didn't fit the part well. The harmonized guitar tones worked for me though. reverbs a bit heavy in some parts. the shred style usually has many different tones fading in and out throughout the mix. one tone doesn't fit all the parts. Yngwie flips his tone switch (on the guitar) many times while playing, and records several tracks while recording.

The bass, the higher notes sound a little whiny, and the lower notes are booming. (is that a real bass?) try some compression, I havn't found a way to fix the whiny sound after recording though. you may need to re-record the bass.

The mixing clinic, a part of this board where you can get better advice than I can give.

oh, not bad playing either. I like the song, just not the mix.

thanks torpid for the comments. i have been stuck in a rut for recording as of lately, gott so many new toys i made it more complicated lol. i agree the mix is bad and i did post it in the mp3 section, i just wanted to hear from some other guitar players as well on the tones. thanks for the listen and god bless.

As thick as that rhythm guitar sounds, the whole thing sounds thin. The drums could probably use some sort of EQing but I can't say for sure what; I'm no expert producer but I like to think I have a good ear for metal. Also, don't be affraid to bring the rhythm guitar away from the bass's low end space, and clean it up a little. Woofing is never good ;)

The higher frequencies on the bass sound like they could have really promising tone but I can't hear them well.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Control Denied's album or "The Sound of Perseverence" by Death, but I bet if you aimed for the sound of these albums I think you'd be very happy with the direction you move in; particularly some of the heavier parts.

This song has absolutely no midrange at all...

The guitars are thin and crispy sounding, they have no real body or meat. The whole song suffers from the same problem. Did you add any stereo EQ to the mix...if so undo it. If not, you need to work on tracking a lot better. Try using no EQ at all on the parts. Get those mics closer to the amps and sound sources.

The tones are bad. What are you using? I know you didn't ask about the mix. Very processed and thin, tin tinny sounding. Get a POD. The only way to go direct. Actually all the emulators have their place too. Johnson, Etc...

Let us know what you are using, maybe we can help.
