John, I sense Crawdad all over the instrumental tracks on The Gift. Correct? It's first rate - along with your singing. Sounds very professional.

James, your track was quite good as well. I thought the violin was a little bit loud compared to the backing tracks, but the melody was beautiful and the playing was top notch.

Heh...now that is a compliment indeed :D. No, I played all of the instruments myself. It was actually my first (and only so far) serious attempt at a full production on something. The difference is that it takes me months to put something like that together where I think it takes Crawdad about an hour and a half :D (because he know what he's doing) :D.

Thanks for the listen on that. I actually want to retrack it. I know I can do it better (especially the vocal).

And yes, James' track was beautiful. Nice work James :)

Hi there,

I have to admit, I'm not too fond of this particular type of music. I didn't know the song either. But there's always something to learn, right?

Yet, I didn't feel this song the way I should. And perhaps it had an influence on my playing, I hope not, but perhaps it had.

So....if you guys don't like it...no problem. Delete my file, and do it yourself then. I really don't mind. It's not like I've spent all afternoon recording it or anything.

So here it is:

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2618&alid=733

48Khz, 192kpbs. If you guys want to have a wav file, I can arrange something with FTP. :)

Btw, I did like Jag's singing and it's a fine drum arrangement James.

Hey Pedullist, our very own low-notes specialist! Great to have you on-board the Inter-Galactic Collab.

Don't worry about not having the feel for the song, consider it an exercise in logistics and feasibility. There will be many issues that need to be sorted for us unused to collaborating in this manner.

I submitted my rhythm guitar parts to Dachay last night. I don't know if he'll find them useful or downright laughable.

Unlike you though, I spent around six hours on my two tracks. :) I too was completely unfamiliar with the piece at first, but I downloaded the empeethree file of the original tune (It can be found by going to Porter's site).

As I wrote to Dachay last night, I really should get a handle on Punch-In recording, it would have saved me hours of frustration and rewinding. I guess I have to get into the mind set of carrying on regardless, I can go back and fix the fluffed bits later...

I am pleased to be able to report that my Asus P4PE + P4 2.4 + WD 120GB + EWX24/96 perform flawlessly - even under Win98SE. :)

No cold-boot issues at all. No clicks, no pops (that I'm aware of).

Hey guys...I have no idea which song I'm supposed to play bass on...

Pedullist on September 7th:
So here it is:

I hope the rest of you slackers are paying attention. :D :D :D

Frank, I assume you sent the files to my work address (as you should). I'll get them tomorrow when I return to the office. I will also download Peds tracks as well. So pretty soon we'll have some bass and some riddum.

BTW, punch-in recording is a breeze and an enormous time saver. Crazy to waste a perfectly good take for one or two flubbed notes. If that were the case, I would never finish a track. :D

OK, who's up next??

Yes, attention has been paid. We're still waiting for the blistering guitar soloist. Any takers?

Aye Captain, that I did.

Yes, I have reached that conclusion.

I also tried editing out some of the erroneous sections in the main audio track and cross-fading to a second audio track that subsequently I laid down. That worked quite well, so I repeated the process for some more cross-fades. :)

For some obscure reason, one of the other cross-fades (I think there were four or five in total) resulted in a barely audible audio section. The wave form was as large as the previous ones, but I could hardly hear it. The background of that particular X-fade was light grey rather than the white of its predecessors.

Any idea what's happening? What button did I inadvertently press?

Frank - I'm back at work. No new file in my mailbox (or anything else from you). I assume you didn't get an error message or anything liike that, so maybe it's still coming, but it's a bit surprising.

I'll let you know if anything shows.

Tjarko - I'm downloading your bass part as I type this. I'll drop it into our "work in progress" file and post it back to the Yahoo briefcase. In the meantime I am going to delete the BPOM without Bass file, since no one else should have any need for them.

BTW, Bluesman, I don't know what the cross fade problem might be.

I'll give it a shot... :)

Which song are we recording again?!? :D

Say 'Drive My Car' and you've got a basspart in 1 seconds (already recorded the part for a guy but he never asked me about it again LOL)

So Dachay...did you get the basspart? Can you handle the sound of an amp emulator and a soundblaster Audigy? Well, at least the bass itself is good....

The part has been downloaded to my laptop. In about 2-3 hours it will be transferred to my DAW at home, at which time I will eagerly drop it into our mix and give it a listen.

Can you handle the sound of an amp emulator and a soundblaster Audigy?
I guess if we absolutely have to. :D :D

Where were you earlier in this thread? Here's a quote from me from about page 23 of this mess:

"BTW, has anyone thought about maybe doing a cover song to start with. Possibly a Beatle's tune or something. Might be an easier way to get our feet wet."

The harmonies would have been easier. More guitar work for everyone. Everyone would know the song.

You missed your chance, Pedman. :D

Ok, seriously: Which song are we playing?!?

I'm completely lost...

LOL @ moskus

It's "Biggest Part Of Me". I have a little sympathy for you. I haven't figured out how that brief case thing works yet (haven't had to yet). It's easy to get lost in this thread :D.

I've been around, just quite the last couple of days... if anyone was curious about my sleeping problem.. ie sleeping lots and then during the day feeling tired... it's fatty liver... I'm on a diet boys!!

Now do we want to do three songs? A Beatles cover to finish off the covers (or even a Eagles for Guitar/Harmonies)?

Also, the web site which I was hopeful for setting up wasn't approved... I think I might have another, however I'm just looking out for copyright and 'file storage' stuff... But I'm thinking about just doing it! ;)

What do you mean by that?
It means I had a bad day and was a bit short-tempered and all of this stuff has been explained about 30 times already. < big sigh >

The song is Biggest Part of Me by Ambrosia. Everything you should need is in the Yahoo Briefcase that I PM'd to you with the username and password, including:

1. the original version of the song
2. a scratch track of our version with lead vocal, drums, and elec piano (and soon to include Peds bass, and some scratch guitar tracks from Bluesmeister).
3. A file splitter-joiner tool, because the mp3's of this song are 5.2 meg, and the Yahoo account only allows 3 meg uploads.

Tjarko - I converted your track to a wave file at 44.1 and dropped into the project. Very nice. Everything went smooth as ice. I will post a version of the mix with your bass in the Yahoo briefcase tomorrow. Anyone else interested can also download a copy. same deal as before - it will be in two separate files which will need to be joined with James' splitter tool. I'm thinking BPOM With Bass for the title. Very creative of me. :D

Porter - you got a fat liver. LOL. Glad to hear it can be fixed with simply a diet change (although in my case, pills are usually a lot easier :) ).

Hmm. No error messages at my end. However, the two music files were both around 2.6MB in size. Is that too big for your mail box to handle? I don't recall any problem last time I sent to you, but I'll ascertain what size the files were on the previous occasion. I may have to re-send the rhythm part as three smaller-size files.

And how do I know I'm having a bad day at work?
If it isn't Saturday or Sunday, I'm at work, so it must be a bad day. ;)

I have a sneaking suspicion here that Moskus is exercising his famed Norwegian wit and winding you up Dachman...

I've never heard of that condition, fatty liver.

Skinny legs*, I can relate to. :)

So how do you put your liver on a diet and exercise regimen? Do you have to take it for a walk every evening and only feed it red wine?

*Talking of legs, I'm reminded of that line by ZZ Top:
She's got legs
And knows how to use 'em

Well, that's a relief. She look pretty stupid asking her mother, "Mom, what are these things? What do I do with them???"

"They're to stop your ass from scraping on the ground darlin'!!!"

Well I've been with it from the beginning (check out Page 1) and I was lost from that point onward... :D

Cool. Nice. Sorry about the unnecassary conversion....I switched to 48Khz for SLuiCe's parts and sticked to it I'm afraid.

At least the track alignment went OK.... :)
