Hi Everyone!

Thanks, in advanced, for taking the time to read this and try to help me out. I've exhausted my Google-Fu and haven't found an answer to my issue. Here is my setup (simple):

- ART Tube MP Project Series USB
- AUDIOTECH AT4040 CARDIOID CONDENSER MIC
- Audacity
- Win7

Unless I place my hand on the ART Tube MP preamp or at the base of the microphone the hum won't go away. I have already replaced the XLR cable, tried ferrite cores. Is there a way to help ground my simple system so that I don't have to keep my hand on either pieces? Is this even a grounding issue?

Thanks for your help!

Is the power cable for the ART MP three prong?

I don't know too much about that, but I would imagine that might be it.

Someone else could answer this, but I'd imagine a two to three prong converter is incredibly cheap.

It could easily just be the ART - I don't like them very much.

try wiggling the XLR connection into the ART to see if that cancels the hum.

Where is your microphone located? If it is on a table along with your computer/fan/whatsoever, then try getting yourself a microphone stand and create your own little "Microphone Booth". I had a problem with the AT2020 when it came to humming, then I realised that the Mini USB Fan was the one transferring the vibrations all the way up to my desktop stand to the AT2020. I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Darren

Connect the art power cable in different outlet than the one in which are connected the pc, monitor and speakers. Also try to take away as much as possible the art tube from the computer. See also if you have other connected usb devices, also turn off tv or radio if they are in the same room.

Do you have to turn the ART all the way up to get a good signal - then is this when you get the hum?

I think there may have been a thread on this. Try searching USB bus noise. Just a thought. Is your hand on the metal parts of the ART. If so it does suggest groudning though.

Has the power point got good grounding, is there a mains leads or a transformer / wall wart, near audio cables? Where is the hum? you have not mentioned monitors, how does the monitoring signal get out of the computer?

Alan.

It's a two prong wall wart type adapter that supplies AC to the ART. No ground in the wall wart and probably the only way the ART gets grounded is back through the USB connection at the computer which is probably less than ideal.

- Is the hum occurring if the mic is disconnected from cable or the cable from the ART?
- With the mic connected, does the hum occur when the either or both the input gain or output level are at zero?

Exactly, but is there powered monitors or an amp powering speakers plugged into this setup? Any other gear we did not hear about?

Alan.
