well,

like I said,

I have absolutely zero experience with circuit boards. and you guys do have more rep power than myself. but that has got to be the last thing I would have thought of!

If I understand correctly, you just need to fix the part in place. Hot glue is perfect for that. I personally would not use solder to attach a plastic part to a circuit board. Solder is for when you need to make an electrical connection.

soldering involves heating metal... something thats hot enough to melt metal will melt plastic. then you'll be bollocksed.

Someone mentioned JB weld. That, or superglue, or hot glue or something (the hot glue gun doesn't get as hot as a soldering iron, but it *does* melt stuff, like glue!). But avoid using something that's hot, and that has to make direct contact with the plastic part (such as soldering!).

I am not going to say Hot Glue won't work, but the last time I ever used tht stuff I was probably in kindergarden during arts and crafts time so my memory of it being a useful item for fixing things is not the best. But if it works it works.

I presonally am a fan of overkill. Rubber cement or some kind of hobby glue that says words that mean strong is where I start. If its any less I usually just say fuck it becuase if you don't do it right the first time, you have a sloppy area as a starting point for the second time it breaks...which is why I like to make sure that it doesn't break. ;)

thats funny, since the last time I used rubber cement was in primary school!

...they gave you hot glue guns in kindergarten?

Well, I think I mispoke....its that glue that I think is also rubber cement (not the jar) but it comes in a metal tooth paste thing and WILL get you high as a kite if you don't open the windows.

And yes, I seem to recall that being way, way, way before this crazy shit now where kids can't even drink from water fountains without having caution signs everywhere about the risk of drowning.

...

..what?

I hot-glued it on there and put everything back together. working again! except the power on light doesn't seem to line up with the casing anymore but wtvr.

I am really glad I decided to start doing these little repairs myself.

thanks everyone!!!!!

my drinking problem is not what you'd think...

Someone around has a sig along the lines of 'don't fix it unless its broken, or you think you have to.'

beware of the last half. Props to you for learning, but be veeerry aware of what you're doing. Don't 'learn' on anything you can't afford to replace. Best of luck tho.
