It is finally to to upgrade my pickups on my 17 year old Yamaha se 250. Man that guitar and i have been together a while...about 10 paint jobs over the years....thing amzingly stays in tune after all this time

i need one hum and one single coil...any suggestions of tried tested choices.

heavy rock is what i play...

thanks

If you use a tube amp and don't mind batteries, the EMG-81 can really make the amp sing. It's extra output can really hit the initial tube stages hard to cause additional sweet harmonics.

check out which pick-ups were used on some of your favorite songs...this should narrow it down...my favorite pick-ups are the dual humbucking...

check to see if the band has a web-site...often times there will be interviews and sometimes guitar players will speak directly about which guitar was used which part of a song...sometimes the band will provide details about their tour equipment, including which guitars they're using...joe satriana, for example, even had his guitar-tech write up a few pages on how he sets up joe's ibenez...you might also look for interviews in Guitar Player magazine...later.

Auditioning pickups in various guitars can also be helpful. However, make sure you try them though the amp you will be palying through.

Also, keep in mind that wood, string length, etc. affects your tone along with the pickup brand/type. These factors will play a role when you are deciding on a pickup either by auditioning the picups yourself or by evaluating the tone of your favorite players.
