Greetings all. I made a pretty interesting song...if you can call it that not too long ago and popped it up on MP3.com. I ORIGINALLY had it in...the Urban & R&B Category but after listening to the other music in that genre....realized I may of misplaced it...SO. I moved it to Hip Hop...but then had NO IDEA if it belongs there either...could y'all take a listen and give me some advice. Thanks.

Subway Song

Click on 'Subway Song' after you reach the link.

Thanks all.

If there is a "Spoken Word" category I would put it under that.....that's what came to mind when I heard it...Pretty dope stuff....

Oh, and just an observation...you're are incredibly fine..LMAO!!
Sorry...had to do it..the pictures on your site speak for themselves...

Beatiful and talented......anyway, I listened to the other joints on your site too and they're all pretty good..keep up the good work..

Peace, High Rez

Very unique. Guess that's why you're having trouble placing it.

I think it falls more into electronica - sort of a cross between Ambient House and Trip-Hop.

Nice stuff. Better production could give it a lot more impact and drama - then I wouldn't doubt it getting some significant spin time.

Thanks y'all!!!

Hey. I WISH they did have a spoken word section at MP3.com...I REALLY do. You're correct. That's basically what it is.

Electronic, Ambient...trip hop??? Hmmmm??? I'm gonna take a listen. So does that mean my initial thought that putting it in alternative hip hop is definitely not quite right???

Production...production...production. Man!!! What I wouldn't do for a FRIGGIN' TUTOR!!!! I'm a former session singer and got tired of getting pimped for my lyrics and voice...decided to do it myself, from home...unfortunately...I didn't realize HOW HARD IT IS TO SING and turn knobs. I'm workin' on it. My songs NEVER come out quite right. They're all FLAT to me. Not one OF THEM is fitting the bill, production wise. Bare with me all. I'm trying. I just have a world more learning, listening and reading to do. I'll get there. Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it. And as far as production on Subway song.

Any good hints on how to give it a 'fuller' sound.

Yeah, this "spoken word" style definitely reminds me of Trip-Hop. Though, the music is a little more like soft House.

A couple examples that come to mind are:

Rocker`s Hi-Fi "Going Under" on their Mish Mash disc. This song is absolutely amazing. Powerful, chilling and deeply beautiful, it sends shivers up my spine every time I hear it.

and Tricky's "Getto Youth" on Pre-Millennium Tension.

You should also listen to some Everything But The Girl. http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserve...ography.html/ArtistID=EVERYTHING+BUT+THE+GIRL They do a lot of that soft House thing. "Wrong" on Walking Wounded is a good example.

and Portishead http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserve...CDN/FIND/discography.html/ArtistID=PORTISHEAD Dummy is particularly good, but they can tend to get a little depressing.

Oh, and another very beautiful, powerful song is the title track fro Massive Attack's "Protection" disc. http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserve...FIND/discography.html/ArtistID=MASSIVE+ATTACK "Better Things" and "Sly" are also wonderful female vocal examples. "Angel" and "Teardrops" on Mezzanine are also incredible. And.... Well, let's just say ALL of Massive Attack's stuff is great!

I could go on and on, but I guess I'll stop now. These short clips obviously can't do any of this music full justice, so drop by the record store and give them a better listen.

From my brief listen, I think "Subway Song" and "Can't Sleep" are your strongest posts. I can imagine you heading into a similar deep and powerful electronic style as these artists I've listed above. Thanks for sharing.:)

Already THERE!

Hello! Thanks for the info on different bands...i actually am fans of all of the above. My boyfriend is a HUGE fan of all of them and listens constantly. I especially enjoyed massive attack and tricky. He's got the whole shebang. I'm still trying to convince him to make beats for me. I think with his beats and my chord progressions we'd be unstoppable. He's not so keen on the idea...artists!!! HMPH!!! See what I mean!!! He's at:

Polyopia Project

??????Good Question

It definetly ain Hip hop. Personally I would call it new jack Jazz, or wtf IS that! Trip hop(don't know alot about it) would probably be your best bet, as it's kinda more abstract then hiphop, but tries to maintain "some" of the elements. I guess it's whatever you wanted it to be though, as thats what counts. I'm feelin the poetry though, I'd like to hear more like this---you got any?

Maya, I simply classify your tune as "GREAT MUSIC"!
That's all there is too it!!!

Your vocs are beautiful! (so R U)!

YES! Got dumped by the boyfriend because I wanted to buy a condo and he didn't. Guess it was too close to long-term commitment, which the truth finally came out...he wasn't gonna stick around for the long haul. Needless to say...I became inspired and created something entitled 'Who am I'...I'm working on eqing it now...had no clue where to put a thing...uploaded the 'one take wonder' version to mp3.com for screams and giggles...But we all know it can take forever to get your stuff approved...i tried to figure out how to stream from a separate site...but it seems to work on MY computer and no one else's. Don't get it...Must also improve HTML skills. I'll pop up a link when it finally arrives.

Good lawd...now if only I could press fast forward on improving my production/engineering skills. Thank you misterQcue...I was busy having a betty crocker saturday night and you put a smile on my face. :D

OH YEAH!!!

I pulled off something else crazy called Polyopythis...once again...totally crapped out engineering on my part, but everytime I try to go back and fix it I cry. Y'all might enjoy it though.

Go to Polyopythis

@ Chriss

It's a darn shame... I had this grandious plan to MAKE the picture gallery and than figured out i was far too much of an HTML idiot to pull it off. Although since then I have purchased Dreamweaver and Fireworks...now all I need is a bootleg copy of Photoshop and Illustrator and I'll be READY!!! (I REFUSE to pay $999) for friggin' software! They've LOST their DARN MINDS!!! $999 can purchase some new kickbutt studio gizmos...like new monitors...a practice amp for the bass and guitar and some sort of easy to use effects processor....AND a stomp box!!! YEAH! Now that's a wishlist, huh?

What you need

Do you do any (final) mastering on your tracks? I'm still learning too, but I think if you have wave lab, or cool edit with some nice plugins, once you get a nice mix, you should be able to get it hotter with those. I started with this digital ish about a year ago, coming from straight analog equip, but I find that even if it takes like 5 times longer in digital, you still come out with hotter mixes(for hiphop anyway). It does take hella patience though. Do you use any of this software?

I try

I SUCK! I really do. I had no idea how technically challenging it was to get things to sound 'right'. UUUGGG!!!
