better get that picture gallery up before that then :) ..

what gear/software do you have mshea? you can come a far way even with very limited gear once you get the hang of it..

I think I can... I think I can

I operate using the following:

1 Alesis QS7.1 synth
1 Gateway PC...fast enough...mucho storage...no worries there
1 Direct Pro 24/96 (should've waited and got the one with 8 ins/outs)
1 Technica microphone (Ohhh yeahhh...the cheeaapppesstt!!!)
1 pair of who knows what headphones
2 Aiwa speakers (used as monitors until I invest in da MKII's...I know I'm gonna catch hell for wanting those...don't ask...I just WANT THEM!!!)
ummmm...OH YEAH!
Cakewalk Pro Studio 9.0
Cool Edit Pro
Sonar (Sonar isn't functional as I can't find the right friggin' drivers and it's pissin' me off...but with it installed...I have cakewalk pulling from it sometimes...works fine...maybe I really don't need the new graphic interface...it was the plug ins I was after...got those)
I had Acid and Fruity Loops but gave up on those ( I CAN'T MAKE COOL BEATS TO SAVE MY SOUL!!!)
One DeArmond M-65 Electric Guitar (fun...fun...fun...now if only i know more than 10 chords...eeekkk)
One DeArmond Pilot Pro 4-String Bass (I'm badddd...sooo bbaadd...in a good way)
Is that it? Yeah...that's it...that's my stuff.

So what wonders can I pull off with that layout.

i would get myself a mixer if i were you, and definitely a new mic..
For incredible sound on a budget (i'd buy them even if i weren't on budget) i'd recommend sennheiser. They make some incredible condensator microphones in their evolution series, used worldwide by performers, and regular people can actually afford them too..

A mixer would do you wonders. I take it you use the QS for both drums and synths, 'aight? Well then you would definitely be better off with placing those on different channels and being able to EQ them independantly.. the same goes for your vocals and guitar.. i'll take the bass if you don't like it :) can always use another bass ..
As for making beats, if you don't allready, u should really try and use the QS via cakewalk. Its got nice drumsounds and a mixer would be able to enhance the bass on it. If you can't afford a "real" mixer, there are some decent yamaha mixers out there with 18-24 channels. Personally i'm also on a budget, so i'm using behringer and it has boosted the quality of my sound tenfold..

You allready got cooledit pro. That's where you should be layering your vocals. Doubling your vocals might be an option, and i'm to be missing a bit of reverb on yo' choons too, which could sound amazing with that voice of yours.

ISSUES!

NEW SONG IS UP!!! It was the other spoken word thing I was talking about. Click here and choose 'Who am I'...it's near the bottom of my page. Once again...took no time to eq...just slammed it up and kept on moving.

WHO AM I

Mixer....outboard mixer??? EEECKKK! I've got my Mixer ummm...on screen. Same buttons, same knobs...same effects...just no box...came with the Aardvark...I can see no difference in it and an outboard box...plus...no 'issues'.

Still in the process of closing on my Condo...won't be buying a thing anytime soon, but I had been eyeing the brand you mentioned for Mics. At least when I move I'll finally have 'dedicated' studio space...can get this stuff out of my living room!!!

The only thing I've used cool edit pro for is cleaning up samples...It's really tricky for me...I have to record HIGH AS HELL!!! Because EVERYTHING I do in Cool Edit Pro makes them quieter and quieter...and if I'm doing all of the musical tweaking in Cakewalk...Then do the vocals in Cool edit pro...they're always slightly off beat...well, noticeably off...I've got a delay somewhere and have NO IDEA what's causing it. Other than that...yeah...Cool Edit Pro's been good to me...working it in with Cakewalk is the issue...And no...don't want to attempt to lay down the instruments in Cool Edit Pro...I'd rip all of my hair out trying to pull that one off.

I think I fear reverb...I know it sounds nice...but when ever I try to add it...I feel like I over do it. I dunno...maybe I'm just hypersensitive...my voice has been a new found toy. Well...off to work. Thanks for the info...

You had the 1 channel aardvark, right? that's the issue.. and a software mixer is no substitute for an analogue one.. having real on-hand knobs makes the learning curve and working process much faster.. but hey, if you don't want it you don't want it, 'aight?

??? wut?? 'dats weird... what operations do you perform? you know you can normalize to zero in the transform-amplitude menu right?
A real mic and a mixer or a mic preamp should fix the volume problem during record.. will also fix noise problems.. sennheisers are extremely quiet..

how have you set all your gear up?? with only one input i'm a bit surprized you manage to get a track done within a 2 year timespan..

and if I'm doing all of the musical tweaking in Cakewalk...Then do the vocals in Cool edit pro...they're always slightly off beat...well, noticeably off...I've got a delay somewhere and have NO IDEA what's causing it. Other than

aw.. that's called latency.. that's basically a soundcard issue.. i know you can reduce it a bit in cakewalk somewhere, but i haven't used cakewalk for more than a few daze and that was quite some years ago, cause i didn't like it.. i'm a cubase guy.. so i can't help you on that..

I think I fear reverb...I know it sounds nice...but when ever I try to add it...I feel like I over do it. I dunno...maybe I'm just hypersensitive...my voice has been a new found toy. Well...off to work. Thanks for the info...

don't fear reverb.. reverb is good.. yea.. reverb is goooood! ...
... :D just never over splatter the mix in it. It is powerfull weapon! You must use it with care, maya san..

anyway.. just be carefull.
for vocals you'd want a low "wet" output and a not too short decay rate (above 800ms prolly)..
you don't want it to be echo-ish and you'd want a fairly high HF-absorption time along with a long attack time to prevent those nice "p"s, "t"s and "s"s from going mad..

i can hear cooledits noise reduction in the vocals.. you need that new mic :)
y is it panned so much to the left btw?...
"u weak little man" :D great stuff..

bettah than before as for s-q, but the arrangement need the touch of some ol' jazz hands.. perhaps a little less high hats, cause we want some real lounge jazz here, wont we? .. i would anyway..

Jimiesha Hendrix?

Listened to "Who Am I", it's off the hook, Jimi Hendrix was the shit, and this track is pure Jimi to me(the vocals especially).
