Well... It's just making sure that your bass and bass drum don't add up to an enormous amount of bass frequencies when they come in at the same time. Surely that can be useful, or even necessary. No?

It works great for certain types of music, especially trance music. However, I'm sure there's room for experimentation with it in any kind of music.

I don't think so, but knock yourself out. It seems like just another "fix it in the mix" crutch to me. Maybe if I knew how to do it I'd think differently, but I doubt it. Seems dumb.

What about if you have a really slow song, and the kick (or toms even - could have some kinda percussion thing goin on) only come in every few seconds, while the bass is doing long "droned" notes? You want to have those kicks/toms givin a real impact, yet for the few seconds they're not playing, you want the bass to have a nice full low-end (teehee :D) too.

Sidechaining = your friend.
 
Summary: If Greg doesn't need to sidechain something, it's pointless :laughings:

For the purpose of this forum, the proof is in the pudding. A lot of people on this site talk a lot of game, but don't/can't back it up. Miroslav anyone? I've got my bullshit detector on full alert. It's tough wading through the nonsense to get to an actually useful tidbit of info from a reputable source. If someone's gonna talk like they know something, let's hear it in action. It's literally all we have to go on in here. I'm not the most technically knowledgeable musician or recordist, but I practice what I preach and I'll put my shit up against anyone's.......and I play all my own shit. :D
