I was gonna suggest one recently.

There was talk of one a while back, but it wasn't really a contest of mixing. It was "upload whatever you want"... so 1) there's no proof that you mixed it, and 2) it's not only a mix, it's recording and song style

This, however, is what I had in mind.

We used to always do these in here.

I encourage anyone to play along and give it a shot.

I'm gonna spam the n00b section.

Thanks Greg, much appreciated :)

Are these all "exactly as recorded"? Man, you track very hot...

I thought the kick was sampled, the doubled kicks hit the same peak every time :p

Great recordings, this'll be a lot of fun.

Nothing is sampled. I don't even know how to use samples. These are just as they were recorded. I can re-do the kick track if you want. I think I left a limiter on. :drunk:

I'd never expect you to use samples. No need to redo anything. Sounds good.

These done to a click? What's the tempo?

Dude, you gotta finish this song... I'm startin to love it!

Just noticed the solo, it kicks ass :D

Lol. Really? I dunno. When I tracked everything, I was like, yeah this might be an okay song, but it just seemed like a "filler" song and not something I could really be proud of. That was around last December or something. I have a lyrical idea and a few lines written, but I just lost interest. If I do decide to finish it, I'm gonna re-track everything.

I think this is one of your better ones, seriously!

Hmm, sorry squib, that mix aint gonna work. The drums are buried and the overheads are too loud. The guitars are thick, but there's not much seperation. It's like all guitar and drum overhead. Keep trying. :)

Sigh, as I said. PC speakers and headphones

I'll def give this a download. Always hoped something like this would pop up so I can practice my mixing without the hassle of writing another song (I think my band will soon be sick of having a drummer who writes music and lyrics). Whether I'll have the balls to put it up here is still uncertain though.

Please do. Put it up. It is sort of a "contest" but it's really more for fun and experience for whoever wants to give it a go. What do you have to lose?

:(not having any luck getting the files, i'll try when i get home.

Yeah dude, put it up! You got nothin to lose... Even if it's terrible, nobody's gonna laugh or anything. We're all like-minded individuals when it comes to this. It's one thing getting to practice mixing, but you do a hell of a lot better when you're practicing (which, every mixing engineer in the world is still doing BTW) and then you get your mix critiqued. You get a feel for where you're going wrong. And then you work on it, and keep getting better. Eventually, you carry on those lessons onto other mixes, in order to learn new lessons. Learning mixing is cumulative, you just get better at it :)

I've downloaded it fine, but it wont open. Says "compressed (zipped) folder '...' is invalid"
