I have had an HP 8100 since August 1999 and it has never written a corrupted disk.

Well to give the flip side..

Glad your's is working for you Mrlip.

HP has been getting some very bad pres with there CD-RW's.. recalls..

I won't say they are bad, but I would suggest buying something else. Yamaha, Mitsumi, plextor.

Smart and Unfriendly, Ricoh, ACER, Afree, HP I would avoid.

But thats just my biased opinion.

Emeric, Is that recently? I don't really know anything about the newer models.

When I was doing research before buying my 8100 I never heard of anything like that. One of the reasons I bought the 8100 was because of the great reviews it was getting.

But if HP has had to recall drives... then yeah I guess I would stay away from them for a while.

istyle:

Assuming you are going EIDE, you're going to pay about $200 for the HP . . . about right?

I'd pay an extra $60 and get a YAMAHA
24x/8x/4x EIDE. They are going so fast that
Buy.com has problems keeping them in stock.
There is a reason for that . . . you know ?

Six months from now, when you can't make a copy of a new audio CD or software backup, because of encoded error blocks the HP can't write, you'll wish you went for the YAMAHA.

Yo Istyle of STYLE:

You might want to review the Alesis Masterlink CDRW box.

If I read the promo correctly, it takes about any analog source and puts it on a hard disc; then, the box has editing tools and Reb Book finalization and Voila, you have a CD.

If you don't have a PC CDRW, this might be a box to look into. I am doing research on it now so if anyone out there knows about the Masterlink CDRW box, kindly drop me a note.

Thanks,
