Getting acoustic fixed tomorrow

more or less like Epiphone is Gibson's lower end and Squire is Fender's....

That's what I figured soon as I saw "Martin & Co" and then the price tag.

It was a great sounding guitar though, nice full, clear, sound. Nothing cheap about the sound. Obviously not as good as the expensive Martin's they had there but wish I would have heard of them before.

Just a little update incase anyone is interested (although I'm sure everyone is probably tired of hearing about my guitar by now ).

The repair man called me and said it would take about 2 weeks! I guess he's busy or something. But then he called back later and said he found some pre-cut bridges he could use that will fit my guitar. It would also not take as long for him to fix it, and also brings the price down.

I know a lot of you would probably have advised against using pre-cut bridges and would have opted for a custom-cut one. I just want the guitar fixed and I've already started saving for a new one, so I'm not too worried about it. So long as I have something to play until I get a new one!

I'm going through withdrawl...(seriously).

He will struggle to find a decent pre cut bridge that matches the footprint of the original in most cases. Other things to consider would be matching the string spacing and getting the intonation right. Its not as simple as sticking the bridge where the old one was and stringing it up. Two weeks isn't bad. You might regret having another cheaper fix. Whats the most you can save?

To be honest I would ask him why he is unable to save the existing bridge He'd need to close the cracks and fill and recut the saddle slot. There may be good reasons as I've said I haven't seen it in my hands. From your earlier pictures that would be my first approach.

Well, he said he found one that will fit my guitar so I'm hoping it does indeed fit. I think the crack had gotten bigger by the time I took it to him.

I'm picking it up tomorrow though. I'll post some pics of the new bridge and let you know how it plays/if it sounds any different. I'm just looking forward to having a guitar to play in the meantime until I buy a better one.

Well, I got it back today. Bridge looks pretty much the same but a darker/chocolate color. I'm pretty sure the saddle is plastic, oh well. Sounds about the same as it did before. Except no buzzing/dead notes on the high E string (which were there even AFTER I got the action raised by the other shop).

Total came to $125. I'm just happy to have something to play/write songs on until I can afford a better one. Which might be longer than I originally thought.

I have no idea about the pickup. I guess I could just try and hook it up to an amp and see if it works, right? When I get off school tonight I'll take some pics.

It looks like he did a solid job and it plays a lot better than it used to. All notes ring much clearer especially higher up on the neck. Bridge looks like it's attached well and the saddle is well seated into the bridge.

It's a good thing I chose the pre-cut bridge or I wouldn't have had enough cash to pick it up this week.

My sister can't find the charger to her digital camera. My friend has a digital camera though I'll try and take some pics pretty soon. Only difference I notice is the saddle looks like a lighter color plastic and the bridge is a darker, chocolaty color.
