Hi there,

I'm trying to get Audition into monitor mode. Is it possible for me play my quitar, with it plugged directly into my sound card, hear it, and make adjustments to the volume etc. without recording the signal coming in? If you've decided you know how to set me in the right direction, would you be kind enough to put your directions into really basic steps like this.

1. From the menu select File-->New. Click Ok on the dialogue box with setting set to 44100.

2. Go to the menu select View-->Advanced Viewing Properties-->Live Nude Women. Click on Full Frontal Nudity etc. . .

I'd really appreciate it if you'd help me out on this, but if you don't feel like spoonfeeding, feel free to just let me know where I need to go and what to do in your own style.

Here's a little help:

I'm plugged into my soundcard, an Nvidia GeForce2 MX (dinosaur), through the Mic port because Line In doesn't work for me(not sure if it should). My sound card only has a Line In and Mic input ports. I can record to a file without any trouble, but I really need to work on getting it to sound better. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I am newb myself, but I can tell you from reading stuff on these boards that you do not want to plug your guitar directly into the sound card. You will not ever be happy with the sound quality you get.

You need to mic your amp and run the mic signal through a mixer, then from the mixer to the LINE IN.

Do not use your mic input for anything, it has a built in preamp which is horrid. You should also look into buying a new sound card also.

Of course everything depends on your budget, so l would suggest leaving your budget info here and I am sure you will get some good suggestions from the pros here.

Cheers ~

Budget? I wish.

Unfortunately, my budget is pretty much zero for the next 6 months at least. My amp is a little plastic job you can carry in the palm of your hand. I'm afraid I'm stuck with plugging into my sound card for a long time. If I had some extra money I'd buy an amp, but right now all my extra cash is going toward getting myself out of the red. It's ugly, but I'm willing to deal with plugging into my sound card and seeing what I can do with that. I really just want to be able to play my own progressions and then burn them onto a CD and use them to work on my soloing. However, it would be helpful if I could figure out how to put audition into monitor mode without having to actually be recording. I just want to hear my guitar signal and futz with it and only have a fixed amount of computer memory being used. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
