Hi, I had a g3 with an audiomedia 3 card in it with protools 4.0. Everything was going ok and i have been recording some songs. But i since got a cheap g4 533mHz with OS9.2 on it, and when i plug in the AM3 it didnt seem to be recognised by the g4. What am i doing wrong?
I am basically happy with the 8 tracks i have, but i wouldnt mind more. What other hardware could i get to use instead? I know very little about protools and stuff.
Thanks.

Get a Motu Soundcard and some pres. This will suit you well and MOTU+Pro Tools=God. I have a MOTU soundcard along with Logic myself on a G4 and a G5 and that is running great. Make sure to get those pres or a nice board though.

Also try to upgrade from 9.2. You at least should have OSX.

Pro Tools will NOT run without a Pro Tools interface. I'm not sure what the above equation means but I'm pretty sure it's inaccurate. Perhaps I misunderstood.

The AM3 card was a fantastic little PCI card and a marvelous way to get into Pro Tools. It has LONG been discontinued and support from Digi for that card is LONG LONG gone. Suggesting to move to OSX is just plain wrong...it won't work.

The G4 533 was a bit of an anomaly for both Mac and Digi reminiscent of the early "Blue and White" machines from Mac. Check Digi's web sight for compatibility and if it is supported the 533 and an M-Box would be very similar to your AM3 card setup.
