So now I have everything on the way to use my FSK sync on my tape machine, but I have no idea of how it works in practice. Do I need to stripe a track with a time code before I record on the rest of the tracks?

The plan is Reaper timecode generator -> midi to FSK converter -> tape machine

If you're using Reaper, forget it. AFAIK it simply doesn't support timecodes.

If you can convert your project to something that can, what you'll usually do is this:

Attach the Midi->timecode converter to the last track of the tape machine, usually 8, 16 or 24, and record the timecode. The converter box itself will generally have the ability to generate a timecode itself. You record that on your tape track and then switch the box to playback mode.

Then you play back the tape and record your tracks on it - the sequencer may take a few seconds to lock up but it should follow the tape.

It looks like they've added some basic support [to Reaper] in the last few days, but still no chase ability.
