Can't believe you prayed on our curiosity! Scumbag! lol.

Seriously though, that's no good dude. I take it it's stopped now?

Any idea what caused it? Trauma? Anything like that?

Yeah it's stopped, feels like I have a constant runny nose which is annoying as hell!

I've had a bad cold over the weekend and actually went home ill from school today. I've just been blowing my nose so much I guess I just wore it down then one time it just started bleeding. The annoying thing is, at first it stopped pretty much straight away, so I went upstairs to clean my nose out and then I think I must have scraped the cut and bam loads of blood starts pouring out and three hours of sitting holding my nose (my arms ache so much).
Enjoy the image!

Forgot to say, I let go of my nose every half an hour but it didnt work, and if it hadnt worked that last time we were gunna go to hospital.

Thanks for the detail, Ollie. You paint quite a picture.

Get a wad of tissue up there and go to bed, pal. DON'T PICK IT! <wags finger at you>

Sorry to hear that dude.
Hope it clears up soon.

Don't worry about the finer points; Just assume I've done really really well, and then tell people that I have. :)

Me too... I'm about to go and buy new monitors and interface today so it'll be really annoying if I can't actually hear things properly!

Mate, I've had a listen... that is awesome. I like the truncated beginning in particular... after I'd tracked it all I thought... yeah, bit long, but doing that sort of editing in standalones is too too hard so I left it...

It'd be interesting discussing what everyone's done after anyone who wants to has had a mix...

Not sure what you've done to the bass, but it's fair thumping along there... makes me think I'm actually a half-decent bass player... actually one of the hardest bits of the tracking was playing those off beat bass notes in the beginning of the outro, even though it was just one note... timing was absolutely killing me...

The whole thing sounds more coherent and together than my job.. Excellent. Thanks heaps!

Anyone else... if I haven't listened and commented on your mix... show me where it is and I'll have a listen. Cheers

I didn't do anything to the timing or 'correct' anything. Just eq and comp. :)

I usually find myself nodding on the downbeat or even miming the rest with my picking fingers when I have to play offbeat.
I'm not sure that I have to; I just kinda to it to make it feel more natural.

Course, if you recorded to a click you'd could just play on the beat and shift it later, right? ;)
(edit. NM. forgot about the standalone thing)

Cheers for listening, and for sharing. I enjoyed mixing it.

Hey there ollie.... thanks for the mix. Nice work for someone with a terminally bleeding nose... :D

As my ears are only slowly returning to form I won't go into it too much... like what you did with the second verse by taking the harmony and using as the main.... nice touch. Also liking the wider spread of the various voices.... Good stuff. Thanks for taking the time, hope you found it a useful exercise..

Cheers mate

Yeah, it's very helpful and I think I said this before but it would take a long time to get mixing practice if I only ever mixed my own songs because I don't make them very quickly

Hey Ollie. I hear what you're saying.
I loved it when I started college because we were getting new sessions pretty much every week.

Out of interest, what are you monitoring on?
I ask because there are elements of your mix that I prefer to my own, but the kick drum stands out big time to me.

It seems so extreme compared to the rest of your mix, I'm wondering if the bass isn't being heard in your current setup?

Hey guys

There are some great mixes on here!
Lemme know what you think of mine: (sorry can't embed due to not making 10posts or something silly)!

:) Cheers Sim

Hey Bis.
I'm listening now. First impressions are good.
It does sound like you might be pushing a limiter a little hard though?

If you have a soundcloud link post it up with spaces or something and I'll embed it for you, if you like.

Either that or go and spam the "get your 10 posts here" thread.
Keep in mind, it might be changed to 15, or even 20 now.

EDIT.
Wow. I very much like the way you ended it!

I cleverly managed to upload someone else's mix then as well so have another look to see if you got the right file xD! SPAMMING IN PROGRESS.

Yea I've pushed well to high on a tape/sat i was messing with thought i got away with it but i will have to have another listen.

gunna be honest here, but I mixed it last week kinda latish at night and I couldn't be bothered to go downstairs and set everything up so I just mixed through earphones, so I'm sure that'll be the source of my problem.

However there is a problem with the bass levels in my song in my signature which was mixed through monitors. That could be down to two things, likely a mixture of both. First of all my monitors were on my desk so there were a lot of vibrations urging me to turn the bass down, and the monitors I use are the M-Audio AV 40's which, I remember someone saying, apparently have increased bass, don't know if that's true or how affective that is to my mix. As I think you saw on my monitor stands thread, I am now using polystyrene stands which can help, which I realised have quite a bit hollowed out of them making them slightly better

Yeah, it's more than likely the headphone thing.

I'm not sure what to think about your other mix though. The two things you mention would cause you to have mixes with low bass (on other systems).

Well, either way, the best reference is music you know well.
Keep it up dude.

Well in a car I compared it to another song and it had slightly less bass but not so much that you would say it really needs to be turned up, I've had mixed thoughts tbh listening to it on different systems
