I missed this whole thing! I'm going to try and get on this now. Hopefully get a rough mix by tonight.

Someone's going to have to tell me how to embed that player thingie..

You know, something that's been bugging me all through this is that on every mix, except my original one, the drums seem ever so slightly out of sync. Now I know why, because of my cross-system-raw-track-providing-debacle which Jimmy cleaned up for me (where's he gone, by the way?), but if you have a listen to mine and compare I'm thinking you'll find that the entire drum track is just a touch differently positioned to all the others.. so if you're thinking the same, feel free to unsnap to grid and shift that sucker along a bit... or back..

Agree on the kick drum in ollie's mix... seemed a bit out there..

And I'm about to listen to BLS's real mix after listening to the first one and wondering what was so special about the ending... :D

something didn't quite work there...

The option doesn't show unless you 'go advanced'.
When you click that, it's at the far right of the menu bar.
Either that or type [ S O UN D C L O U D ] L I N K [ / S O UN D C L O U D ] without spaces.

Funny, I did end up tweaking track positions. I think I delayed drums and bass by 100ms or so, if memory serves.
I didn't put much thought into it because it wasn't way out, but I felt like maybe the vocal track was slightly late compared to everything else?

Quick, quick, you'll miss the deadline.......

Oh wait... there isn't one! :D

I'm waiting for someone to replace my drum track with something a bit more poundy snare wise and reamp the electric guitars...:thumbs up:

Have fun!

That'll be that lazy singer dude... :D He's a bit mystified by what's going on here with his song... I send him links but he though it was a "remix" competition and is waiting for the heavy metal disco version... :laughings:

I've worked out how to do this properly next time though with the tracks...

And I'm sure I'm learning more out of this than you guys are, which was sort of why I put the song up there... so thanks all!

I'll try to do that. I would have gone a little more traditional, but I see Steen has beat me to it!

Funny, I didn't get the acoustic tracks at the beginning of the song... It just starts with the drums.

WHOOPS! Nevermind. Read the rest of the thread. Might have to do some moving. :D

Hmm. They all lined up for me.

Any moving I had to do was literally milliseconds.

Maybe the download has changed.

Nah, I found the problem. I mixed the drums first. I usually do that, then go back to them at the end. It made them louder and the acoustics quieter. LOL!

...............

Finished!

Just listening to mine and everyone else's, I can conclude that mine is a gajillion times better! :D

But gajillion isn't a number, so it's not really any better. :p

I went for an aggressive mix. Steen, how did you get that kick to pump through in the mix?! I did all I could. Oh well. I'm quite satisfied.

I'm pretty sure my kick has just eq + comp.
The eq is very aggressive though. I'll screen dump it if you want. :)

No comments yet. I'm not at speakers.

Edit.
Here's my kick chain.
There's a gate I forgot about, but that was just for the hiss.

Dang! That is some hardcore EQ! I didn't think you were supposed to low-shelf kick drums since the low frequencies are its niche.

You're probably right but the shelf is centred on 50hz and really taking effect between 30+40.
I'm not even sure my monitors let me hear that low.

TBH, I've used it more as a tool to shape the curve further up the spectrum. It kinda rounded off that hump at 70/80.

The level could probably stand to come up a bit, but I really like the sound of the kick after that eq.

I could've got my kick sounding like that, but not with making a lot of background "air" noise in the process.

Anyone want to give my mix a listen?

Hey Crows. I was really enjoying your mix until the vocals come in. They sound pretty aggressively limited to me; Like, even distorting a little. Maybe it's the master?

That aside, the music sounds great to me. It's completely different to mine.

I tried to make mine sound as clean and clinical as I could, focussing on tightness.
Yours nearly sounds it would fit in a drug/dream sequence in a movie or something. Something about the reverb and whatever way you've compressed it just made it really smooth and uneventful, in a nice way.

That's why I love these things. I mixed the song the way I think it should be, but presumably so did you.
Then you end up with two completely different, but completely valid takes on something

What do you mean about the kick there? I didn't follow.

There's still something I've done to mix mix that I haven't heard anyone else do yet.
I think it totally made the difference but I'm interested to see if anyone else agrees, or even notices.
