Dont you think Ibanez is a wise choice. I play bass, and i own an ibanez GSR 200(their second ceapest model) but I really like it. Im thinkin of buying a new one after playing bass for about a year. I really like How Ibanez's gituars and basses look and sound. Does anyone strongly disagree with me, because I havent played that many other brands. Im just wondering, since Ibanez gituars and basses arnt mentioned on this board a whole lot.

You might wanna play some of each, then make up yer own mind........there are lots of different rock music sounds out there ya know.....if you wanna sound like your favorite player, and have the talent and equipment they have, then there's yer ticket.....or you can make your own sound....gibs

Ibanez

I had played guitar for about a year on an old Strat I was given by an uncle before I really got the itch to find my own sound. I must have bought 6 guitars (Les Pauls, Strats, SGs, you name it) a year for 4 years before deciding on an Ibanez Talman. It's the same guitar that jackass Noodles from the Offspring plays. I love the guitar, hate the Offspring. Mine has a Seymour Duncan 'bucker on the neck and an EMG 'bucker on the bridge. I have never been happier with the sound and I haven't seen anyone on the local scene with a guitar like it either.

My bass player has an Ergodyne bass. I borrow it whenever I can for recording. it is a great bass.

I like my Ibanez because it does what I need it to.

You should really audtion a few basses, with a band or recording, before deciding on one.

No easy answers, here! Which instrument works best depends completely on the person who is playing it. I would go for something that I like the feel and sound of, along with something that is decent quality so I don't end up spending my money again in a year. I don't care much about shape or brand as long as it feels good and is reliable.

Having said that, I have a 5-string Ibanez bass and it works fine. But why buy another Ibanez when you like the one you have? If you need a better bass, fine, but if you are just getting a second bass why not branch out a bit? I love having different instruments around because the different feel alone inpires a different kind of playing sometimes.

Definately play other brands before sinking your money into another Ibanez. You may still end up with the Ibanez, but you will never doubt that you made a good purchase. When I am looking for an instrument I try everything in my price range at every store within an hour drive. :D

If you really want to *rock* get the Ibanez....or maybe Gibson. Dont mess around. I have a million friends that play Fender. None of them have a heavy sound at all. They plug in thinking theyre gonna sound like Slayer and their guitar tone sounds more like Weezer or Lighthouse. Nothing against Weezer or Lighthouse, this is not the time nor place to debate their merits. Although I will say Weezer and Lighthouse are not heavy.

If you want to sound like Lighthouse, get a Fender Tele. Then you can look like them too. You can get yourself a grungy, striped yellow and blue Nautica Polo shirt while youre at it.

If you want to rock go with Ibanez...or Gibson if you can afford it.

I have two Ibanez Prestiges and an Ibanez 7 string and they are definitely rock guitars. I have been very happy with the sound and how fast the necks are. Not to mention that they can take punishment.

Ibanez = shred

satriani , vai and formerly petrucci. all ibanez players. the neck is thin and fast. the lo pro edge floyd is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Personaly i fly on ibanez guitars and slow down on fenders and even scaloped neck jobs. how yngwie does it... i'll never know.

throw in a good DiMarzio super-distortion pickup in there and away you go. zoom zoom.

the body being so light (on most strat style ibanez) means that you can't really get the 'chug chug' that the metal heads really want .. but there are lots of metal heads with ibanez guitars nevertheless.

ibanez guitars IMO are the best for progressive and technical rock.

Petrucci lately went to Ernie Ball guitars ... i don't know if it's because he actually likes them or perhaps it was for the pile of $... i've never tried one.

Anyhow .. I'm a die hard ibanez fan. I find they are 'presentable' guitars for the most part and you can use them in a variety of different styles of music. Currently I own a black JS model with the DiMarzio pickups. love it.

I have a Les Paul and I don't even look at guitars anymore. I would like a different tone sometimes when I record, so I think I will borrow my friend's Tele. Really though, finding a guitar you really like is the goal as I see it.

CARVIN!!!

I've got two of them: DC135 and a DC747
I really like the thin maple necks w/ebony fretboards.

I also have a Charvel model 1 I just love, but it has Carvin electronics in it. It's neck and fretboard are maple.

I do not like rosewood fretboards.

I love my Mexi Strats... (All 3)

I can whip them across the stage at the drummer head rendering it smashed to itty bitty pieces, and go out and buy another one for $299....

Let's see the custom shop snobs do that.......:D

That is funny. :p

I prefer my sg for all-out rock but then again my strat is also great for bluesy rock so my vote goes for both of the above.

I love my Ernie Balls. I've got 3: 2 Sillhouettes and a Sterling bass. Great quality control, super comfy, and so much better than a Strat. Check them out on my site!

id have to go with ibanez any day i love my rg7421 7 string ive tryed other types of guitars but they just didnt work for me ibanez are the only guitars that have the right feel for me

I am playing an odball guitar that I bought new 15 years ago.It was made by Strings and Things workshop in Memphis. It is called a St. Blues "Blues King" model. It is basically a high quality strat type guitar, but the body is thicker and it has a flat top and binding like a tele. The body was cut from a solid piece of asian ash and it has a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. It came with stock strat type pickups, but after about a week I replaced them with EMG SA's and have played it that way for 15 years now.I gig with it,a Marshall VS 102 and the footswitch.I ditched all my outboard processing a while back because the guitar and amp combo had the kind of "thang" goin' on that was hard to beat.
Hey VOXVENDOR,I want you to come down here to Tulsa and play with my band.I have a drummer I want you to throw guitars at!

*LOL*

I think I can arrange that.... It's time for a new axe anyways... :D

There is nothing wrong with a japanese or mexican guitar if that is the price range you are in. What is typically lacking in tone can to some extent be made up by replacing pickups and or electronics, to get more volume, more tone, more whatever it is you desire.

However, if you are considering a "serious" guitar that you won't be slinging at your drummer's head (as one person above suggested), you might consider reading through this site, just for another perspective:

http://www.edromanguitars.com

There is no doubt that he is a bigot against import guitars, however having played a custom made, custom taylored guitar my friend purchased from him, I can honestly say that there is definately a humungous feel different in the guitar, as compared to my $300 ibanez that I have. I am not a really good guitar player, what I use a guitar for would actually make most of you sick, but thats another story :)

But I will comment, from an amatuer's perspective, there is a huge quality difference between the Ibanez $300 special and something like a PRS, or a custom job.

Just food for thought...

Mexican strats play just as good as american strats....the pickups are different, they have a little less output. Output is no big deal to me....tone is what i care about most. I can get alot of real good tones out of my mex strat. Im totally satisfied with it. I also have a vintage strat.
I've been playing 30 years and I think the current line of mexican strats are better guitars than the fender strats of the late 70's and early 80's. Quality went down hill during the cbs era and now I believe its back up to snuff. The ironic thing is that you can buy several mex strats for what a late 70's original strat brings. Who are these people paying out the ass for (in my opinion) the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to fender strats? Man...THESE guitars are one reason that the 50's and 60's era pre-cbs strats became valuable...and now they are valuable too. I guess its because people just want an old strat...quality dosen't matter.
