For anyone with doubts about Sonar

Ok, maybe I'm stupid, but just to clearify what I mean, here's a picture of my desktop running Sonar. If you open for example the console and right-click on the top-left icon, is there an entry in the menu that says "Enable floating"?

And for you all... this really isn't a big point, but I got curious... ;)

I'm not trying to make HS2002 look bad or anything, it's a great program for a reasonable price. :)

I can do the same thing with HS2002 being that the main window is maximized across both monitors. :)

Not trying to be a pain in the ass, but I've always questioned Sonar's dual monitor capability claims and what real advantage the feature offers...

I love the dual monitor support. Try setting your desktop to black first. Then float the mixing console out onto the 2nd monitor and resize it to exactly the size it is. Looks cool.

Also, when you do a final mix, you can float the console over the whole of a decreased sized tracks and cakewalk programme so that only the console is showing on the monitor. Give it a try.

Brzilian, you have a video-card that supports dual monitors, right?

The only difference is showing when you have 2 video-cards in your system (1 AGP and 1 PCI). A friend of mine does this, runs HS2002 and is not able to use the second screen at all, because HS won't maximize (or be streched) to the other monitor.

He runs Win2000, it could be different in XP...

But let's cut this monitor bullshit: Cakewalk rules! :D

win XP only suport dual proc in Professional version. Not Home edition.... and...
Yeah, Moskus were right, let's cut off this bull shit, Canadian beer rules :D

Dual-Monitor Support

I use Matrox G450 video cards in all my client's machines, and this card has excellent dual-monitor support. It is not a gamer's card, but it IS the fastest and most stable 2D out there. Less than $80 at newegg.com and other places.

I used to think so but my GeForce 4 MX440 with dual outputs does a pretty good job as well.

My 2cents

Marks Bros Productions

System:
Dual 800 P3
392(?) meg RAM
Matrox GS450 Dual vid.
2 layla 20s, one gina
ProAud 9
NT4.0 SP6
24bit file depth, 48k sample
Topaz 24-8-2 console

The dual vid is nice! The matrox driver leaves alittle to be desired.
Cakewalk uses ALL of both processors power, but very little memory. Is there a way to use more of it?

We are SERIOUSLY thing of upgade (ARRGG more POWER!!)
2x 1gig CPUs
Sonar
Win XP

I like hearing what you folks are saying about Sonar. Makes me feel better about laying out the $$$. We have been with cakewalk since before ProAud 6. I just HATE to start another learning curve...

I'm not shure here, but I think that PA9 wasn't optimized for two processors... And the program will use as much memory that it needs.

Randell!

Hi

Could you please tell more about your dual p3 800 setup. What mother board is that on?

Plus, what, if any other, MB are you now considering? Or are you just looking to change the CPUs?

Thanks
Jan

It is a P6DBE by Supermicro. A place here in Huntsville alabama called GigaParts Built it for less than $2000. That's w/o OS, modem, speakers, etc. But it did include two 17" monitors mouseand keyboard.

We are not going to change the MB. This one supports up to 1gig 100mhz CPUs.

I added an extra cooling fan. That seemed to stop the lockup...

We bought this system about two years ago. I'm not sure that MB is available anymore.

We've been able to run 26 tracks with some realtime effects/processing and automation without hitting the speed rail yet...
