Hell man I saw all the Star Wars films at the theater. My friends mom was so cool (or maybe just crazy?) she took us to see Heavy Metal at the theater! That was freakin awesome! I had just turned eleven :p I guess those were the first boobs I saw on the silver screen. Actually - that might not be right - I think I saw the Shining the year before in the theater... Full frontal! But then she got all freaky and turned into an old witch. Those two little girls freaked me out.
 
Lucky... my mom made me sit through Titanic with her. Bet she didn't expect boobs in that movie! 3 hours for 1 pair of boobs = lame deal. Unfortunately I had seen much better boobs already and was thoroughly disappointed. I can't say my mom wasn't cool though, she got me into metallica when they were still good!
 
My first proper portable stereo audio system, or "ghetto blaster", was a Xmas gift in '93. CD, cassette, AM/FM. A couple years later when I bought my first electric guitar, I plugged it into my Sony's mic jack. That was pretty awful.

There was also a portable tape deck (another xmas gift) that I got in '86 or so. It came with a small mic and had a picture of Big Bird on it. That was my introduction to home recording.

My "ghetto blaster" was a sad little Walkman knockoff (Emerson brand I think), which I listened to on the bus.

Old school ghetto. Makes me realize how much I love my 160GB iPod.
 
All my older siblings were strictly vinyl, but around '81 or '82 my folks bought me a little Sony boombox with one speaker (lame), a tape deck and radio. I went out and bought two tapes: Led Zeppelin's fourth album and Black Sabbath's first, and I wore that shit out. It was probably months before I had the dough to get any more tapes. I went through several others throughout the '80's - Fisher, Panasonic, Aiwa...all of 'em seemed wicked awesome at the time.
 
My first stereo would have to be my only relation to this thread re: a Ghetto Blaster. And I still have it in all its glory. Purchased in 1980. A Kenwood KR-6030 tuner/receiver (a Monster of power!), A Technics Direct Drive Linear Tracking Turntable SL-DL1, a JVC cassette deck with VU meters (replaced now with something far better), and a pair of Pioneer C-312 3-way speakers that could get pretty loud and sounded great.

It's still in fantastic condition, because I began using my PA System as my stereo in 1985, which is freaking mind-blowing.

I was able to nab a couple of photos on the web just now, but not the speakers for some reason.


EDIT: Oh, I think I don't qualify! My birth year was before 1967. What does that make me???

That is fucking beautiful. I'm listening to Ray Price on a Technics SU-V7 integrated amp from the same period right now. :cool:
