Good points in there.
Yeah alot of the problem is bands not having enough money to get the mix done properly.

Thats why I set up my own company to mix and master recorded tracks for a very reasonable price. I have had very positive feedback from my results. I work with professional tracks and home recording tracks.
I help the home recorders by giving them tips on how to get better sounding tracks so I can get a bettter sounding mix for them.
I am all about quality and take as long as I can to make sure my clients are happy.
This isnt my full time job though, so I do get more time to get the mixes, and masters just right.

ecktronic, I went to your site. Very nice job on the mixes. Excellent. We can argue about tweaks but that is all matter of opinion. The quality IS there! Unlike that other studio in question at begining of this thread. Nice job!

Thank you Jim. Sometimes I only wish I could take credit for the tracking in some of my mixes. :)

Nice work on the live tracking and mixing. Must be hard sometimes to get good results due to musicians with bad equipent and bad sounds.Do you get alot of work from your company?

Hey, but once you have the tracks, you have to have the skill and ears to know what to do with them!

Thanks very much! Well, as like you its is my part time thing. Only nights and weekends. I used to rent space downtown but after 3 years I paying rent I got tired of "having" to do certian projects to pay expenses. Now, I have all my gear home and can pretty much pick and choose. The live stuff is a lot of fun for me. Yes, bad gear and bad players do enter into it but for the gear I try to plan ahead as best as I can. If there is a sound company doing the sound I reveiw the mic list etc. I have a 150 foot splitter snake so I can always get good clean signal.

And how did this contribute to this thread at all?

they are not happy with the recordings..in my opinion i think they fuct them over

If they arent happy they should start with themselves. Its a sloppy, unorganized, unprepared mess.

I dont think they got ripped off at all. They went to the studio with a mess, now they have a mess on a CD.

So, what you are saying is that even though maybe the PAYING CUSTOMER wanted things in the mix the way you hear them, the engineer, who is being PAID by THAT CUSTOMER should just disregard what THE CUSTOMER WANTS, and adjust things to the way he thinks it should be?

You guys obviously don't understand thing ONE about running a recording studio!

And by the way, I would estimate that 99% of bands go into the studio SELF PRODUCING!

So, do you not recognise the problems in the mix? Problems that i happen to think are down to the Mixing engineer to solve....vocals are awful. By the way mate ive worked in 5 paying studios and ran my own. Believe me i know whats involved. Im not saying the engineers are shit, but the job is certainly rushed...its not a finished product, which is WHAT THE CUSTOMER WANTS. The studio set the price, now whether or not anyone feels its too high or too little is beside the point. Who knows what went wrong, but this inst a finished product, and just so you know, i would never have let this leave my studio and in the past have worked until ive got the job finished.

Time to go back to school little boy, yo mommas calling.

Listening to the clean guitar at the start of the song. It sounds terrible, and the distortion sounds masty also. The 2nd songs distorted guitars sound alot better.

I used to do this, but I ended up giving someone a $2000 job for $300. Then when they come back, just as unprepared, they expect that I will just fix their screw-ups for free. They don't learn anything, they don't try to get better and I end up working for free.

If you are doing this as a hobby, you can get away with it, if you are trying to make a living, it isn't worth it.
