first hand made guitar!

Man , i'm so stoked ! I've been working on a les paul styled guitar for almost 4 months now, and i finally finished it up! I must say that when you look at a completed git, they look pretty simple...LOL not even! Holy shit i had to learn geometry all over again! But, it came out well and the first time plugging it in after it was done was nerrve wracking! Sounds pretty good though....to my old ears any way. Wish i could play it ! Bought the wood on ebay last summer, scrounged the wood for the fretboard and head stock from the trash can at work. If i can figure out how to post a picture i would if there was any interest. I'm no expert by any means , but would encourage anyone to try it once!! Back to makin' noise with it!!

thanks slowrider and danny..... i rushed the finish more than i should have, but i kept telling myself that I needed to get it playable if possible before invested a lot of time in laquer and buffing! I'm still in shock that everything came out right! LOL, the action is actually a bit low!

thanks cannabis, the front is a bookmatched set of flamed maple that i got on ebay....it was really wet when i got it, and i was scared poopless that it was going to warp out of being useable. the neck is flamed maple also...solid one piece, but it was dry....when i cut it to shape, there was a split inside the wood, but most of it got cut away, an the rest filed off in final shaping. The body is one piece of honduran mahoganny., the fretboard and headstock veneer is a piece of bubinga that i salvaged from the trash at work. ( i make airplane cabinets) so it was a freebie! The inlay is gold MOP in a kit from stewmac.com . The truss rod is a hot rod two way adjustable from stew mac also. plans for a 59 LP and Melvyn Hiscock's book on building your own electric guitar were reat help....also...from stew mac...total cost of wood, parts, tools, ~$800.00

Way to go!!! Like others, I've done lots of repairs but never got around to building a guitar from scratch. From the pics it looks like you did a pretty fine job. This is just my oppinion but I'd say you have deffinately earned some bragging rights. Just one question... When you gonna start on the strat style one?

Thanks dani , fader, and light, I'm pretty pleased with it. I actually have planned on making another already. Like a gibson sg. I have a strat already, so i don't have plans to build one. I know what you are saying about it being so addictive light...i lost a lot of sleep over this one, and my productivity at work went way down!! But now that it's done, i feel like something is missing!
I have some african mahoganny that might make a nice one. i don't have any rosewood for the fretboard though....but i do have some birdseye maple....hmmmm, scrape all my christmas dough together, borrow some from the kids, i could get a nice bridge....oh man here it goes again!

Great work and some beautiful wood in that guitar! Good choice in leaving off the pickguard-you have to show off that maple top. Here is a link to a free utility that will let you shrink down pictures to the 64KB limit in this forum, I use it all the time.
