Hello!

I'm a first time poster here....

I bought a Tascam 388 several months ago. And as I learned how to use it, I found myself on these forums reading up about the machine. There's a HUGE amount of info from all of you veterans, and I'm grateful to have found this place!

And now, that I've finished my first piece of work on my 388, I'm excited to share! I can't insert links in my posts until I have 10 posts under my belt. So, for now, see my signature for audio via SoundCloud. Those are 2 songs from a 3 song EP I'll be rolling out very soon.

Anyway, I'll be eager for your feedback!

Welcome!

Definitely diggin' the tunes. Sounds great. Did you compose and record all the music yourself?
Everything sounds pretty smooth and balanced. Ambulance Chaser has a killer vibe.

Yes, there is a wealth of info on the 388 here.
Especially if you have a problem with your recorder,...there's a bunch of threads here
that are great blueprints for troubleshooting.

I see you are in Brooklyn. I have a few friends out there with studios.
Translator Audio & The Civil Defense.
One of my very good friends also owns a bar called Lucky 13 in Park Slope and
Foodswings in Williamsburg.
If you're ever playin' any live gigs, pm me on here, let me know when and I'll try to make it out to one. I make a trip out to Brooklyn once a month.
I like to support original artists and enjoy all kinds of live music.

Hope to hear some future recordings on your 388. Good stuff.

good sounding recordings for a 388.
care to share details on mics/ mixing, etc. ?

Thanks so much! I wrote all the music....had some help recording it though.

Thanks!

I can't take much credit for the mixes, I must admit. I worked on these recordings with a producer/engineer friend of mine, and he mixed.

As for mics:
Vox: Shure SM7
Acoustic guitars: AKG C451B
Electric guitars: Goldtone mic'd w/ Royer R-121
Steel: Goldtone mic'd w/ Royer R-121
Bass: Sansamp RBI
Drums: Mono using the Royer R-121

cool.

There is a sticky at the top of this section for analog recordings, if you also want to post it there.

What did you guys use for reverb?

Sounds awesome! Nothing about the finished product belies that it was recorded on an old, prosumer tape machine.

Proof that you don't need ProTools et. al. if you've got good songs and make the most of basic gear.

Cheers, Ben.

I'm not sure what we used for the verb. There isn't too much of it though....

Oh, and thanks for that tip. I'll go check out that thread too!

Cool stuff, and the recordings sound great.

You're a Jason Falkner fan, aren't you? :)
