I solicited a lot of questions about options for mixdown machines and formats here a while ago, and I got a lot of really good information. Just want to say thanks to the forum....this is a positive place
. I was looking for a minidisc deck, but yesterday I found an Otari MX5050 Mk.III-2 1/4" 2-trk machine that came out of a church for $200, and I bought it. It seems to be in good working condition, records, erases, and playbacks....it sounds good! I may have seconds thoughts on it if I ever take it in for a service and they tell me it needs X, Y, and Z, or they can't get parts as it's an older machine, but I'm happy at the moment. I learned how to record on analog reel-to-reel machines, so it's nice watching the reels go 'round, editing with tape heads, etc. I know that this is backassward today, and I do plan on getting a computer for recording, but for now this is pretty cool....heavy as a mother, too, with the up-on-top meter bridge that hangs over the deck. Yesterday My stars must have been in some retro alignment, because I also traded some one a few old tubes for a working Nacamichi 600 cassette deck....old school, but it looks cool and sounds good. Now I can finally record some mixes and do some editing!
Thanks again,
Cheers!
