i just picked up a mint used strat (a 98 or 99 i think) that was supposed to be a mexican but ended up back in the states because the factory closed down before it could be assembled. anyone know anything about these and the scoop (if any)? serial number starts with mn......

is there any chance you're talking about the california series strats?

i thought the california ones had 'made in usa' on the headstock? maybe i'm wrong.

well, according to someone who used to play a california strat, the headstock says "made in America", not "made in U.S.A". I think it's funny :)
anyway, i think you're talking about a different guitar, tell us what you find out please...

I'm pretty sure the mn serial number indicates it was made in mexico in the nineties. mn8 would be 98 mn9 would be 99. you probably knew this already.

yeah, i got that info. i'm assuming that it's just a mexican strat that happened to be assembled in the us so putting made in mexico on the headstock would be inappropriate. thanks to all who responded.
