What do you guys think about Sonic Reality's "Sonic Synth"? I just got it, I like it, but haven't compared it to those in the poll.

Well,

After bitching and moaning about certain features (like filter cutoff FM) I finally broke down and got Reaktor... uhm... simple analog emulations seems to be quite easy to implement, and once you jack up the sampling rate you don't hear any aliasing (OK... past 88.2 :D ) and the ability to up the unison count reallly allows for some fat, fat, fat sounds... I think I am gonna like this more and more as I get the hang of it and start exploring the more...uhm...interesting modules like the Grain Cloud... pure industrial mayhem!!!!!!

Gotta love those NI folk.

Sorry I'm slow jumping on this thread while I'm considering some softsynth/sampler options...

1. going back to Crystal mentioned earlier, is it compatible with Sonar 2.2? Would I need a VST wrapper?

2. How about VSampler 3 (DXi), any good?

B4.

However, if this counts, I do love Stylus although it is a percussion synth only.

Oh, Okay. If soft samplers are included, then Kontakt wins hands down. I just wish they would put out libraries such as Vienna Symphonic for Kontakt.

Supposedly it's modeled off of a nord lead 2

controls are similar, the sound is not as....

still a wonderful synth, especially for free :)

I'm pretty new to softsynths - since i got Sonar 3, and I'm even impressed by the freebies included in Sonar. I could get pretty close to my Monopoly with the Triangle II...

I've downloaded the synth1 - I like it. Tried some of the presets and it sounds kind of special. Sounds that inspires songs. It's nice that it's both a VSTi and a DXi...

I liked Crystal too - adds to the arsenal in a nice way. Isn't a copy soundwise of anything I already have. But it's not a synth I would use on more than one or two tracks...

I think the presets for the Synth1 are atrocious. But KVR has some additional banks that are well worth the download

I've found a secret - with nearly all synths everyone says their presets suck. So to stay truly original - go with the presets, noone else uses them.
;)

I think I've found a few on the synth1 that I can use with some reverb and minor tweaking. But I've downloaded the banks also...

Has anyone tried the Waldorf Attack VST drum synth? It's pretty killer for electronic type beats and some weird sound effects. Plus, can you say multitimbral?? Each key gets its own 2 oscillators, filter, envelope, etc. sounds good to boot.

Given my economic situation, I downloaded a handful of free softsynths recently for appraisal.

Apart from the usual suspects mentioned above (Synth1 and Crystal especially), I think FreeAlpha is also excellent. Big Tick's Cheese Machine can be useful for analog 80's strings.

Synth 1 Is great, Isn't It?

A bit stupid poll!
Propellerheads and Tascam are actually not soft synth makers;
Props is making uber softstudio and Tascam Gigastudio is
big daddy of all diskstreaming softsamplers!
Althougth Steinberg does some softsynths, I wouldn't call
it solely softsynth maker!

But anyway, I vote for Synth 1!
It's simply excellent.
Looks bit ugly first, but you can make it look quite nice with customizing
colors. And there are hundreds of nice sounds available for it!

If this Poll would be about soft samplers, I would
vote for Kompakt, Gigastudio would get honourable mention.

Someone was talking nicely about Kompakt, and me too!
Wov, what a soundset!
Just go too see what's
included in Kompakt library.http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?kompaktlibrary_us
Delicate things from Eastwest, Zero-G and Sonic Implants!!!
You won't be disappointed at all!

Yes! I love Attack! Great for electronic drums. Especially if you patch in some effects after it. I also like using it to double other, sampled drums, especially with kicks to add punch.

definitely the FM7.

I agree the FM7 sounds sweet. But I found a little daunting to navigate and create my own patches. Maybe just my thick head...
