I am NOT a Gear Whore. ;)
so ive read that Yamaha NS10m's shouldnt be your only set of monitors. thats what i have now. i spoke with my boss, and he agrees, and says he has 2 pairs of EV MS-802's, he's using one in his studio and he will sell me the other pair. are they a nice partnership, so to speak? i couldnt find any online or on ebay, but does anyone know the going rate for them?

The ns10's and the ms802's are pretty close to the same sort of speaker. I recommend getting something different if you want an alternate to ns10's.

definetly, I like the NS-10s but I'd go crazy if that were my only speakers. I use the KRK V8s as well, and I've heard good things about Event ASPs. I like as many reference speakers as possible.

Hmm.
well, the EV's are availible for me. it should be a nice price too.

i hear ya, the more equiptment, the better!

you wont catch me ever selling a mic!

yes and i am going crazy. my alternative are some Audio-technica phones, the 40's and i hate them because they make everything sound great! the ns-10m's are honest monitors! if it sounds like crap, they play crap!

so you dont think i should get the EV's? any recommendations for some higher end monitors? i know JBL makes some really nice monitors.

um, ev ms-802 and ev sentry 100a (the same speaker but without woodgrain) are totally different sounding than ns-10s.... sorry to disagree with the poster who said the opposite. ns-10s are harsh, bright, and lacking in low frequency output and extension but the low end is nice and tight. the ms-802 is a listener's speaker, much more even response than ns-10s, slightly less revealing though, and less tight bass, but much more of it and to a much lower bottom end limit. slight dip in the mids, but not much, and my favorite speakers in my studio. i also have yorkville 1i's or whatever the passives are called, sort of like ns-10s but with more bass and easier to listen to for extended periods, but still not my preferred listening speaker. I do mix on both though, otherwise my mixes are a little too mid-present from the slightly lower level of mids in my EVs.

great speakers, those evs, definitely get them from him. shouldn't be too expensive though, 802s are $300 max.

by the way, I know this is an older thread (few months ago I think) but I figured it was worth setting the record straight about ns10s, ev ms-802s, ev sentry 100as (since we're talking 802s), etc.

I hope that's ok.

Cheers,
Don
