No, I certainly don't mind compliments - bring 'em on. Now to make you REALLY laugh - guess my age w/o looking at my profile!

After seeing your picture I would have to say late 20's early 30's. You look around my age bracket. I assume you are older or you wouldnt be asking this question. If you are much older than I specified then you look very young for your age.

I've not thought of the dual monitor route, most likely due to a space issue. It would be nice to have a larger viewing area when I'm mastering within WaveLab, as I have to move plugins around to get a clear view.

Once you go 2 screens you will never go back to using 1 again. I have my screens plopped right up between the studio monitors. There is a wide enouph space to fit 2 - 19" screens.

Which VST instruments are you using?? I've been pulling mine off my keyboards (and some live), would like to have other options expecially with some orchestral types.

I use the VST's that come with cubase, like monologue, a1, but mostly from HALion (sampler). I find myself using more of the halion to complete drum beats and also to add some melodies too. I just finished a whole R & B type track with a singer using HALion for about 90% of the track.

I just looked at your profile, you dont reveal the year you were born. So I couldnt of cheated and peeked at it. :D

I will be 42 in January! I'm even a grandmother LOL
Before I could go with dual screens I would have to revamp the entire set up. For now I'll continue using 1024x768, which though the view is small...it works. Which version of HALion are you using? Now my next ques would be "Does WaveLab support VSTs?". Think I'll check that out.

Wow! You've got one amazingly lucky husband!

Course, I'm lucky as well - my wife recently hit 40 and is still consistently thought to be in her 20's. So I'm lucky - and yes I know it :) Except my wife isn't in to the recording thing, though my constant purchases leave her with gas - and I'm not talking about gear acquisition! :) That's probably a good thing however because otherwise we'd be (more) broke if we both were buying gear!

Best of luck in your musical endeavors!

42!! God Bless!! You look younger than that. If you did want to go the 2 screens you would probably need to change your video card, (unless it has dual outs already). I have my resolution at 1200x1024 (something like that). I use version 2.2 of HALion. I think wavelab supports VST's because you can use VST plug-ins for it. I use Samplitude 7 Pro for mastering, and it has VST support, but I dont use it to track or mix, I only use it as a mastering/editing tool. The plug-ins that it comes with are pretty powerful as is. I hear wavelab is better though.

Thanks guys!! My hubby obviously is pretty supportive of the whole recording/music thing. He was a program director for our local rock station for about 15-years, so is a terrific one to bounce ideas off of and to utilize as a producer. He also is a gear-head so our hobbies and toys blend pretty well. I let him buy just about what ever he want for his PC systems.

I'm only using WaveLab for mastering/editing, but may have to try using it for tracking if I pick up HALion 3. I know there have been times that I've wanted a particular "instrument" and haven't been able to find it on my equipment. WaveLab is very nice for the final mastering/mixing and also for burning. I highly recommend it.

My hubby used an ATI Radeon 128 at one time, but has upgraded to something else (BIG gamer)...not sure what.

I gotta warn you using a lot of VST's they tend to hog the CPU a bit, you may have to upgrade your processor.

I bought the Radeon because I play games too (when I dont make music). A friend of mine recommended the ATI. I am happy with it so far, no problems.

I'll wait then until it's time for me to build a new one. I did just get a nice little package in the mail. An EPSON Stylus Photo R300 to print right to CDR. Just testing the first CD right now WOO HOO!!

You can probably use a few tracks without heavy CPU load.

Are you referring to "direct CD" meaning if you have a file on your HD you can simply click and drag it to your CDR like you would a floppy disk? Windows XP pro has that feature called "direct CD". It is pretty cool to use that when I need to back-up projects in cubase, I simply send the whole project folder to the CDR drive and then when I insert a disc it burns the folder to it like a floppy. And better yet it doesnt "fully close" the disc so I can add more stuff to it as I need.

I do have that already with WinXP and love it. The new toy is a printer that prints right on the CD vs. having to print to a CD label. It was something I'd been drooling over for a while! Plus he ordered me 100 printable CDs to go with it....just in time to print out my Christmas CD

thewifey, sorry for the question but how can you mix like that??Try a diferent Monitor location...please! :)

You mean to tell me that this printer puts ink literally,m directly on the CD?? That is awesome sweetie! (dont mind me I had a few drinks)

A couple drinks makes recording and mixing much better! I go for a good glass of wine (or two) when I get started.

YES, it puts the ink right on the CD. Course they must be blank, white printables, but they cost only slightly more than the others. No more messing with labels. I found that some players seem to very sensitive to weight. If I put in a CD with a label it won't play, but if I put one in w/o, plays just fine. You can get one from www.newegg.com for $129 after a $30 rebate. The one I designed and printed last night came out so professional looking! I used a picture I had taken this summer camping.

Marciano: What doesn't show in the pics of my studio is the high back ergonomically correct leather chair that sits in front of the monitor. I do the biggest majority of mixing on my digital recorder, which is set at the right height for me to stand. Once I'm finished with everything there, I send it into Adobe Audition (PC) and into WaveLab. Things are set up a little cleaner and tighter right now, just have to get new pics up. Waiting to do that b/c I'm going to overhaul the website. I did lots of research and planning as I was setting up the studio and the "half-circle" design wokred best in the room. Makes it easy for me to move from piece to piece.

I had alot more than 2 glasses of wine :D

I am gonna look into this printer, for $130 and I can print directly on a CD, that beats an amateur looking sticky label anyday. And the label can cause the disc to spin "off-balance" and not play at all. It can also increase the "error-rate". You will probably notice that mastering houses prefer discs with no labels or any markings on the CD because of this instability.

More than two glasses of wine and I wouldn't get anything done LOL

I certainly would recommend it. Especially since it also prints labels as well as anything else. One stop shopping! It's nice to know the "how's and why's" of the non-play problem.
