Whereas the earlier post off "Life in Session" was mostly a piece conceptualized by John. This is one I brought to him that he wrote the lyrics for. At the time, he'd broken up with a serious relationship over differences in what was acceptable behavior and so this lyric is actually predicated on a true story.

It's a dense mix. There's a shit-ton going on, and it is so busy, it is nigh impossible to get a lot of edges around the instruments and featured parts. So, in mixes like this, one must "pick their battles". It's thick, so the trick of it is to try to avoid full on blasting the listener with the overwhelm but for where it is necessary to "lift" the song's energy - which requires that there also be more straightforward parts in the song where only the essential necessary components are driving it.

You'll see what I mean if/when you listen.

But sometimes, even still, one sits back after walking the fine line, and asks if everything strikes as being perhaps a little "too over the top"?

It's nice that you got Bowie to do the vocals; well, just the high notes!
I jest. I wouldn't say this is READY for streaming etc. But it is well down the road. I wouldn't know how to improve it, just how to worsen it...knowing me.
The key to music is to surprise yourself. Does the flow of notes do that to you? no? TANGENTS!
TANGENTS APLENTY. Just when you set up a riff earlier, when it comes around again...stop midway and change the key of the entire ensemble and strike out in a completely different direction, and shock all who are in the vicinity.

Just how I see it. My ears are bigger than my stomach.
