Epiphone Valve Standard

I bought one of these things because it has the sound I want for a recording project I am on. Basically I love the sound even though I am going to re tube it with better tubes. There is just on thing that is driving me crazy that I must straighten out before the sessions start. When I play notes on the 7th fret of my LP like an E it has a rattle that is driving me nuts. When I sit on the amp the rattle diappears. I think it mya be the face plate but I dunno.
Anybody had any experience like this?
 
I have a Traynor that's a rattle-monster. The main culprit on my amp is the piece of wood that's screwed onto the back of the chassis to protect the tubes. Its like a piece of 1"x4" wood that fits in the interior of the back cavity, and is secured by 4 screws. That thing is like a diaphragm and it resonates at certain frequencies and rattles like mad.

Another culprit could be the tubes. Some vibrations may be happening just right to vibrate the innards of the tubes. A microphonic tube will exaggerate this, but I could hear this same noise when I had my old Sovtek tubes in my amp (not so much with the JJs).

I'd suggest trying to torque every screw down, within reason of course. I found that my Traynor arrived with several screws that weren't as tight as they could have been. a few minutes with a screwdriver and the rattles were better, but certainly not gone.
 
I don't think that it is the tubes because when I sit on the amp the rattle goes away. On the other hand I like screw driver idea. If I can't cure it I am going to take it back and get another one. Thanks for the input.
 
Well I took the damn thing back and every one of them out of the box has the same rattle on F# and G. The store has a call in to Gibson about the problem. I like the sound of this amp but the rattle makes it useless for recording. If they cant solve the problem I am going to have to get another amp.

Get the head version.
 
I have the head version of the Valve Junior. I wasn't aware that there is a head version of the Valve Standard. Is there such an animal?
Another solution might be to run it thru an extension cabinet.

How do you like that vavle junior?
 
I love the Valve Junior. I was playing in thru a 4 x 12 cabinet and it sound great. I am going to replace the tubes because I think a tube switch will really bring it out.
I scrapped the Valve Standard ... it is a shame because I lked the way it sounded. Instead I bought a VOX ADT50 Modeling Amp. It sounds good but I can't wait to get my hands on my new Traynor.
 
The 40W Wine colored one. I forget the model number. I love the way it sounds.
