newbie speech...
I think that often times the word newbie is taken for granted. I understand the gripes with individuals who are merely posting for feedback without rendering any, but there are many things to consider.
For starters, I will use myself as I am certain that I speak appropriately on behalf of many of the newcomers to the forums (making a big leap here so bare with me...).
I have always made beats, mostly with sythesizers and other digital methods. So first and foremost HOMERECORDING and recording of any kind that requires training is totally new. I have posted songs to the forum, got very little feedback but I am patient enough to earn my spot here. The only problem is if you are a newcomer, how do you know where to begin if you have absolutely no prior recording knowledge outside of your musical experience? And for many that only comes from posting your music to receive feedback.
I have read many suggestions for monitoring the activity of this forum and I think that new members should have equal access to the critique that may be the reason why many on the site are as knowledgeable today. There could even be a "smaller" scale forum for reviews for beginners seeing as how a great many have problems with the expansion of the site.
After all this forum is a lot like education (actually it is education...). There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained but in many instances the rich (veteran members) get richer and the poor (those mesely beginners like myself) get poorer. I understand the disdain with recurring themes and topics that have been covered for years but in my experience I just don't understand some issues based off of the discussions because truth be told, there still needs to be some form of prior understanding in place. So it is almost necessary to ask those dreadful question s again and again. I understand that to benefit from this site, newcomers must be patient, but I think as is the case with any good working relationship, the same is required from the other side of the wall, those older memebers who were helped and are now in a position to help.
I don't want my comments to be taken as combat or bashing because I have, personally, grown drastically in my less than a month of membership. But I also know how easy it can be to get turned off by a lot of the members on the site and their more than frank ways. Mad props to those members who give valiant efforts at unbiased support and thanks to those who have preference also, but the bottom line is that we all have to coexist so why foster qualms about it when we can work cohesively for the betterment of all members.
Before this turns into a civil liberties presentation, I'll end here, so go ahead and hit me with the barrage...I put on my metal hat and protective gear before I started writing...And by the way I have a few tracks uploaded that I would love to get some feedback on if you all don't mind...
