yep its a prescott..
3.2gig 800front side bus 1mb cache

Dude, don't get the Prescott!!! Or really do a lot of research on it. The Prescott is not the P4EE. Different chip, more instructions, longer pipeline, slower at 3.2Ghz.

Plus they run a lot hotter and require more power. Not a very good chip......yet. They'll be good when they get the clock up to 4Ghz or so, but right now they fail to compete with the P4EE, the FX51, and the A64 3400+

my dad said he has a 3.2prescott he can give me or a 3.4gig P4E.. so i guess i'll get the p4E from him if its that much better.. i had him install nuendo on both and open a 24/96 session with plenty of plugins and both system qould hanle it he said. thats all i'm really after..
the FX51 cpus are a little iffy at times with nuendo.. they keep spiking.. the amd 64 is a solid cpu.. but the 3400 is costly, the 3200 isn't really.. i'm getting everything through my dad's company so i'm not really paying much for it.

i might just save up a little more money and grab one of his servers.. a dual 3gig. i won't need to upgrade from it for a long time. only problem is the supermirco MB has pciX slots and my delta 1010 isn't pciX, and i don't feel like paying to upgrade the card. i'll probably sell it and pick up a Digi002R

I think you are confusing the P4 3.4E with the P43.4EE.

The EE is the Extreme Edition, and slaughters the Prescott. The E is just the Prescott.

the 3.2gig a prescott, the 3.4 is an extreme.
i'm building the 3.4 now, just took it out the box.

i'll have it ready for a session tonight to see what it can handle

There's also a 3.4 Prescott.

i have the system built. its not a prescott..
the box says "Pentium 4 processor extreme edition"
has a P4 sign with a black bar on the side of the log that says extreme edition.
so i know i have an extreme edition P4.

i have it on a Intel D875PBZLK motherboard for the extreme edition cpus. 2gig of corsair ddr400 ram, 2 74gig Western Digital Raptor, Ati 9600 video card, in a Lian Li PC-6070 case. its a nice system so far... i'm getting ready to do a mix tonight for someone so i'll see what it can really do. so far tracking wise and just running a few waves ir-1 reverbs, rvox, rcomp, renEq's.. it can take anything i throw at it

That's a good thing then. THe EE kills the Prescott (at least for now, until they get the speed up higher on the Prescott).

That should work pretty well for you then!

after a full mix of a song that had a total of 46 tracks @ 24/48 the cpu was sitting at 30%... just 30%
i have plenty of waves plugins going, a psp master Q and a few other plugs. the only thing that actually started making the cpu work was the Wave ir-1 reverb other than that rcomp, rvox,reneq,S1 etc.. none of that stuff even bothers the cpu.
now my only problem is gonna be paying my dad for this machine.. the cpu alown i've seen for $1000:eek:

Yeah those EE chips aren't cheap! :D

I'll stick with my $80 AMD 2500+.......as nice as the FX51 and EE chips are, they are a bit rich for my blood. :D

Congrats though, I am glad that you got it all running and that you're happy with it. Sounds like a really nice box.

wanna give me a loan :D LOL
i keep my xp2500 daw for making beats on. i have a superG network in my house so transfering beats to the recording computer doesn't take much.
if you want some extra power outta your xp2500.. use ddr400 ram and clock the fsb to 200. you don't have to change the voltage or anything.. and your cpu will run at 2.2gig
