Hey Drummers,

I'm just one guy in a home studio...piecing together loops without a sampler or a sequencer-- using cut&paste on a digital TASCAM recorder...it's a lot easier than it sounds once you get the hang of it...BUT...I've been trying to find audio cd's of drum loops, like what Big Fish Audio sells...BUT...they cater to the hip hop programmed drum machines mostly...PLUS...they cost, at the very least, $50 (rarely) and usually $100 to $200 each. You might find 1 or 2 very useful loops on a $150 cd...

SO...I'm wondering if any of you drummers do stuff like that. Something like: you spend a couple hours recording various grooves at various tempos, introducing subtle and not so subtle changes in the patetrns so that they could be cut and pasted and arranged given the dynamics of VERSE-CHORUS-BRIDGE...etc...you peform them with a click in headphones at specific tempos (so tempos remain unwavering)...

THEN, you undercut what companies like Big Fish are doing by selling a 30 minute disc containing several grooves for, like, $30.

Anyone doing this? Anyone want to? I need basic live drum grooves at various tempos, specific kick-snare patterns aren't as important as simply having a live drummer.

Anyway, look forward to any responses...

Seems like you might get a lot more response if you put this question up on a bulletin board aimed at drummers. I don't know any, but there must be a ton of them.

You might want to check out "illy B eats" by Billy Martin, the drummer for Medeski Martin and Wood at amuletrecords.com .

Here is a description of one of the records found at that site:

Price $15.00

From the illy B Eats series of breakbeat and percussion samples intended for DJ use. Available only on limited edition vinyl, this Scotty Hard (MMW, Wu-Tang Clan, Jungle Brothers) produced album features 13 tracks of ground thumping beats played by Billy Martin himself. Martin intends for Groove, Bang and Jive Around to also be part of a collaborative project in which DJ's + musicians who use the beats in original compositions then submit their work to illy B Eats for possible inclusion on a forthcoming double CD compilation.

Thanks for the ideas...I'll check those sites now...
