Double Tracking, Anyone?

Traditionally, double tracking is recording the same part twice.
Not two mics or two cabs, but two separate performances of the same part.

Of course you can switch up your cabs, pickups, etc, but the crucial part is that you perform the part twice.
The subtle differences between the two performances are what makes this different from any dual mic/cab setup.

Yess sireee bob... :)

overdubbing is tracking a part more than once
Not true. In fact, you could overdub many instruments just the once. Overdubbing is further recording to tracks that have already been recorded.
.
dual or double tracking is tracking a part across multiple channels. this could be one or serveral amp cabs simultaneously.
There is a universe of difference between double tracking and simultaneous miking.
The reason ADT was called artificial double tracking was because even though the vocal or instrument would only be tracked once, it was electronically doubled with a microscopic delay between the original and the double, thus giving the impression that it had been, in fact, recorded twice separately.

so
I guess it different termonology. or maybe I'm just that old and can't remember correctly.
lol ok,
