yeah it's exciting. i considered the club thing a couple years ago. I still may. we've got tons of old mill style buildings here. oh which i rent 7 rooms, wood floors, open rooms for like $100/month!

so yeah it's pretty sweet.
 
if by "making money" you mean buying more gear, then yes... i make money... :D
 
When I started off recording other people, I did not charge anyone. I would try to record any decent group I could find just for the experience. As my skills improved, I upgraded my gear as I learned. The process got to a point where I had to start charging to recoup the cost of the gear. Charging also gets people to be serious in the studio and not to waste your time goofing off. As your skills and equipment improve you can raise the amount you charge. I record on the side and if a I not have a gig lined up, I just enjoy the down time because when I have session going it seems like I have several at one time and am slammed to the hilt.
