The Drum rolls should be simple rolls. These drum fills sound like rock and roll drum fills and this song isnt rock n roll.....
I know there is going to be 2 strongly divided camps on this (whether Erland likes it or not...he's still around, isn't he??
), but this song COULD be made into a rock and roll song, imo. Listen to some old Jethro Tull, and maybe apply it to this stuff, as an example. I'm not saying it SHOULD change into a harder sound, but I think it can work...Infact, I think you could take just about ANY style, and slap it behind his stuff, and if done GOOD, will fit and work. The styles can contrast, but still work with each other. The idea is keeping quality behind it...genre, not so important.......maybe, me thinks
Of course, the other camp will completely disagree. I see no fence sitters on this issue...eh?
on a side note, I've been goofing around with this stuff too, and the hard part for me is deciding whether you add a calliope (sp?) behind it, accordian...or dang it, a Jethro Tull band....or strings...or a fiddle, Vince Gill guitar sound/playing..... Everything seems to wanna work... Probably a side effect of a good song, in the first place.
...and of course (to be a fence sitter
), whacking on the back of the gitter works too!
) I leave those for real drumers to deal with
