I need some info on caikleen or deoxit. I could have swore that I remember reading in here that they went from deoxit to caikleen or something like that. Changing the name.
My question is what of the many many products do I want? Is there 1 all purpose can or spray? I would like to be able to lube stuff up as well as clean rubber rollers and stuff too. Do I need a couple of different things to do all that?

pc,

Don't know the history of CaiKleen, but I do use the CaiKleen 'RBR' for the pinch roller, and it works just fine. I use chamois cloth from a sewing/fabric store to clean with.

Do not use the alcohol I mention below for the pinch roller; over time it will dry out/deteriorate the rubber.

For the heads and path, you just need some 99% Isopropyl alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) and some chamois cloth, and you should be good to go.

DeOxit, from what I've been told, is good for cleaning and de-oxidizing contacts and plugs (hence the name) but I haven't tried it. Someone else can probably weigh in on that.

Best,
C.

Cosmic is right but I would like to add that the 'ol standby is indeed deoxit d5 but be careful not to over do it and also note that the product drips and needs time to dry. There's another version called dn5 which dries quick and is non drip. I haven't tried it though. You should only use it on contacts / plugs, as Cosmic mentioned, but not on faders or stuff which rotates. For that you should use faderlube. Also, when treating rubber with the RBR, just do it once now and leave it alone till it starts losing its nice rubber finish and grip again - which may mean years. During that time, just use a lint free cloth (dampened with warm water) to clean off the appearance of oxide from the pinch roller - which may mean every few recording sessions or thereabout.

deoxit or caig?
Caig Laboratories is the parent company and Deox-IT, Caikleen RBR, etc, are products of the company's line of goods.

Their website can give you the full 411 on all their stuff ... and it is good stuff! ;)

www.caig.com

Cheers! :)
