Current Job = Unemployed. I'm looking around for something where they don't care about the length of my hair. (and when they do say something - I just say, "Oh, well thank you for your time, but I couldn't work for a company that is so small minded and PREJUDICED as to judge the quality of my work by the length of my hair!")

I'm going back to school, studying to be a Certified Electronics Technician (I'll be the guy that people call to set up or work on their Computers and Networks) then I'll be going on to an Electronic Engineering degree/certification. I want to learn how to really work on audio gear.

Then I intend to start a "tech support" company.
We have tons of studios here (including a new Television production center......two shows on HGTV are made here), and 1 guy who can "repair" (supposedly) this gear - and he tends to jack leg shit.

Let's put it this way, he had an old 4 track of mine that I took in to get fixed, and he had it for *18* months. He kept returning it going,"It's fixed!" and he never once fixed what I took it in for. It needed a new head, and I told him that when I took it in - but he didn't bother replacing it. At least he could have been honest and said, "I don't know what's wrong with it."

So, I intend to put his ass out of business!
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
He won't know what the hell hit him-except his business will dry up, while mine grows.

...contract Right of Way Agent...
Ahh... So you work to aquire R.O.W.'s for City, County, and State planned roadway improvement projects?

Fonts work for THE MAN in the utility biz stealing R.O.W.???

It's all becoming a LOT clearer now, Fonts.............

I guess as long as you get well paid for your work it's okay that the utilities screw everybody else to tears.

Fortunately for me I didn't have any respect for you prior to this revelation, so I'm not out anything..........

Well, you know, you can always keep driving down that broken down, winding, dangerous 2 lane road, or you can have a nice paved 4 lane highway with proper geometry on curves and super-elevation.
Its also bought, not simply aquired, so nobody's getting screwed to tears.
Its called progress.

I almost feel funny telling you guys I was a music major for 2 1/2 years and then switched to tech theatre. I've played in bands all my life. Did tons of recording, even had a real record deal once. I got so tired of the music never comming out the way I heard it in my head. I also got tired of all those commericial studios that look at you like your nuts when you want to try something different. So, my little home recording hobby keeps growing.
As for a job well I spent a good amount of time on the road so I usually worked part time jobs for extra income. In the easly 80's I went back to school and got a second degree as a watchmaker. I ran a warehouse for an electronics company but now I have the best job of all as an at home dad for my son and I have another on the way. ( I gotta be nuts for having an infant at 45)

So if you are a stay at home dad, does your wife work (assuming you have one...let me know if I made an ass of myself :D)?

I think it's great that rolls are switching.

I think stay at home dad's ROCK!!!

Nice to see some clarinet players on here.

All throughout pre-college school I played violin, clarinet and tuba.

Over the eight years my wife an I have been together (one married, 7 just "together") there have been times where we both worked, only she worked, or only I worked.

Right now its my wife's turn to stay at home thanks to the current job market in the NY area.

About six years back it was my turn to walk around my recording studio in my underwear while eating potato chips for breakfast :-D

Hey SAE
My wife has a pretty good job and encourages me having the studio. Took some getting used to but I really enjoy being home to watch the kid and soon kids grow. My little boy is a special needs child and I'm glad I'm able to be with him. It's just kinda cool to see the expressions on peoples faces when I tell them I do the laundry, food shopping and cooking. But hell, a single guys gotta do that too.

I think it's really neat/interesting how the views on typical male/female roles have changed in the last 30 years. I think it's great that as a society we are starting to feel lindividulas can do what they want and not be predestined to typical roles based on sex.

Very cool!

I used to play regular clarinet during marching band season, then concert band season I played bass clarinet.

I have in the attic, in a box somewhere, an Akai wind controller. Ebay special, played it twice, put it in a box lol.

Ah. in the VERY old days I was first chair for B flat cornet.

3rd chair french hornist here! I am currently an electrician working at an array of places, from food factories that make the butter in the tubs, to warehouses, to cardbord recycling machinery, to office space, form churches to dance clubs. I work all over my state not knowing where the next day will take me. I am also working on my associates degree in electrical construction. The school I attend one night a week and have to keep on the job hours for the requirement. And after spending 40 hours working, 3 1/2 hours showering, 10 hours being a youth pastor at church, the 27 minuites brushing my teeth, the 5 hours counseling youth, the 5 hours in electrical class, the 38 hours sleeping, the 5 hours playing drums in my band, the 10 hours eating, the 14 hours behind the wheel, the 11 hours I spend with my wife, I still find time in the week to do some recording. All this will catch up to me later, but for now, I am only 25, and can do it all!

wow -- so many engineers! That explains why I meet so many gear heads hear (just like me) :p

I have a PhD in astrophysics and work for various universities/space agencies. My job brought me from Germany to the US 4 years ago. What I love & hate about my job is the fact that I have to move every 2 years or so. That explains why I can't build an own studio. I look forward to my first own house and a faaaaat studio! What totally sucks is that in astronomy you get paied next to nothing. I'm not a good musician, but I can program my synths and play sax. Does that qualify me for staying on this board?? :D

astrophysics:confused: :D Confusing for me

So what exactly do you do in astrophysics (pardon my ignorance)

I am the COO of a small sportsbook and online casino. I´m in charge of the odds, the bets, the whole operation. That´s my day job. I also own a small recording facility and have recorded quite a number of demo tapes and other stuff here and there; some that has even gotten some radio play!!! :D
