I have an older daughter like that. And a Younger one too. Thinking about it, my wife is like it as well
LMAO.

You know what's really sad? My wife is like that as well, and we're not even married anymore. The last few years she managed to finely tune her tactics and used the kids as her weapon of choice in the Mike-Theresa Wars. "Mom says you need to buy us < fill in the blank > " How do you say no without seeming like a cheap bastard to your children? Of course by now I have taken to not caring if they think I'm a cheap bastard - since actually I am. :)

Are you thinking about a Takamine?
Probably. Sounds like you still favor the Taylor. I'll have to give them another listen.

I've been primarily looking at the ones with the built in pick-ups. Not that I need it for anything in particular, just thought it would give me more options. Thanks for the input.

What am I going to do this weekend?

I'm going to try and get all the things I was supposed to do this summer done.:(

We had company yesterday but the next two days are wide open.

I went looking for an acoustic for my cousin and tried out some Taylors.......ooh lah lah
Given his price range ($600) we found a snappy little Ibanez, blue with a cutaway and pickup that will do the job nicely.

I love the cheapo acoustic comment by Paul, I've got a 3/4 size acoustic that I bought for my 5 year old son for $99.I play it all the time because it's out and handy.I've done some recording of it with a shure bg41 mike and it sounded pretty impressive.

But I love cheap and tacky, give me a silvertone with a mother of toilet seat pickguard and masonite body and I'm as happy as a pig in slop.
I've got a strat but I'm always playing those darn Danelectro's.

Chuck
those Patriots continue to be lucky as the game with the Packers is the sunday after an away monday nighter against the arch rival Chicaco Bears (booo...hissss..)
An anomaly in scheduling no doubt done to give the Patriots a chance to continue their lucky ways.
But their luck is gonna run out!

Guy's top ten list of things for Paul to do on his birthday

Okay, no nead to shout, I heard ya! (phew, not even wifey shouts at me as loud as that:) )

Aka, cheap Geetars, its amazing what you keep coming back to, the most played instrument in my place is also a cheapo geetar that doesn't have a case, is always "out", leaning against a wall and is recored all the time.

Great new Avatar, Guy. Looks like the mold from Mikes bathroom got ya. It gives you a rock star complexion.

Anyway, I hear all you Yankees are enjoying TV's American Idol?

I had to suffer it all last Winter here in the UK. Made me wanna puke. Music as we know is being strangled, Hendrix, Joplin and Bonham are turning in their graves.:(

Mike, you are on the right track imho with built in pick-ups, thats what you are paying for with the better makes. With pickups and a cutaway you extend all your options. Guy would also add that a plastic back makes for a light instrument which extends your options even more. For me that is an extended option too far, but I have to admit he makes a good point (see his previous post in this thread).

Shit, I am away from home again.:( Oh well. Enjoy your Labor day, Armageddon is coming soon, enjoy your rest. Will Bush Senior pursuade Bush Junior not to bomb Iraq? Who gives a shit? Now where's my guitar..........?

woo-hoo!
It was raining today so I took the boy to Mars music just to blow some time and oops.....I came home with this,
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...6236919482/search/g=home/detail/base_id/59457

Set it up and all my monitoring troubles have been answered!

Now about those marital troubles......
Oh well at least I've got my priorities straight!

Mike,Paul time to step up to the plate and make your superbowl picks in this my dragon cave thread,Chuck made his....the Patriots.

You're a year late Chuck.;)

No that avatar is'nt a picture of me nor a Packers lineman. He's the star of the biggest movie to be released in 2003!  :D

Don't worry about armageddon it's got to happen sooner or later.

Armageddon also had a cool album out in the 70's,with a song called "silver tightrope"

LATER!

I had to go back to my profile page and turn on "show avatars" just so I could see Guy's new avatar. Now that I've done it, I'm wondering if it was worth it. :)

Acid - I bought a headphone amp last year. Great investment. I got a different brand than you (Rolls, maybe?). It has five outlets, but doesn't have the bass/treble controls. I think I paid around $125 for it, so for $99 you got a good deal. Paul, it seems you and I are lagging behind in the gear acquisition race. Chuck and Acid just go buy things, while you and I sit around and agonize over the purchases.

AR - My superbowl pick would be the NY Giants, but I'm afraid they are not even getting out of their own division this year. But, regardless, I'm going to see them on Sept 21st (before the cold weather sets in :) )

Wow. That's scary. Not the avatar, but the fact that you & I might have another common interest....comics.

I eagerly awaited the Spider-man movie this year and was quite satisfied. Especially due to the fact that I was a huge comic book junkie - especially Marvels, during my misspent youth.

BTW, I noticed an add for the Daredevil movie in Yahoo the other day.

Chuck Iwas a Huge comics fan until girls diverted my attention. The Spiderman movie restarted my dormant interest.
Mainly Marvel though I have only tepid interest in DC comics.

These are the sites that have been taking away from my recording time...

http://www.superherohype.com/

http://www.marvel.com/

http://www.comicbookresources.com/

http://www.aintitcool.com/section.cgi?type=Coolnews

Guys,
I have bought equipment that did'nt live up to it's expectations but I'm really happy with this headphone amp.....I should've bought it much sooner.
Did you ever get a piece of gear you wished you would of bought sooner?

I hung in there with comics until I became a dad a few years back (ran outta time), but the Spidey movie has rekindled my interest. Marvel.com was making the new Hulk comic available free online for a bit and they are good. Also the new Amazing Spider-Man has J Michael Straczynski (creator of the Babylon 5 tv show) writing. It is also very good.

Yeah, a headphone amp. But I haven't bought one yet. I think that's next though.

BTW, my wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl today. Everyone is doing just great. Thought I'd share that with youse guys!

CONGRATULATIONS! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Those girls are nothing but trouble, but they steal your heart and make you forget all that.Hmmm.....come to think of it women are the same way!

I've got a five year old boy who just started kindergarten today and a three year old girl who knows just how to work her poor sucker of a dad.
Late starter that I am I'll be fifty-five by the time she turns eighteen!
I'm hoping they keep me young mentally,it's to late physically.:(

Once again congratulations!

BTW I'm really happy with the behringer and highly reccomend it.

That's great. Congratulations, Chuck. Is this your first?

I have both a girl and a boy. In my case they both happen to be relatively worthless, but I didn't know that when they were first born. You'd a thought there would've been a test or something, no?

In the interim I developed this thought that children should probably be born at about 3 years old (so as to skip the diapers stage) and then move out at around 8 or 9.

Just kidding. I wish the very best to both Mom and you. I imagine we'll be seeing a little less of you here for the next couple of months. :)

ALlmost forgot...

The Patriots are 1 point dogs to the Steelers at home!
Superbowl champs at home opening day.....underdogs?
Rodney Dangerfield gets more respect than that!

The Giants are 3-1/2 point dogs at home too.

Alas my Green Bay Packers are 7-1/2 point favorites......but when you play on the frozen tundra of Lambeau field you're going to get that kind of respect.

I don't know if you'll see less of me on the site, probably just odd posting times as I'm sure the sleep cycle will be off for a while.

I'll be out of work (family leave - unpaid) for a month or so. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a few things done around here.

Guy, I'll be 59 when this one turns 18, so I imagine I'll be paying out college up to retirement age. Then, God willing, I'll just keel over.

My older daughter is four. And when I told her she had a sister (we remained ignorant of gender all the way to delivery), she hit me with a bear hug that would've taken out Ahman Green.

BTW, Pats love the dog role (see AFC Championship game, 2002) and are quite amused, but not upset with the lack of respect going into the season. They ARE Belechick's team...even keeled, just like the coach.

Mike, Yanks tied the season series with the Sox tonight (it goes down a bit easier that way.....)

CONGRATUALTIONS Chuck:D :D :D

I looked after my baby nephew a few weekends back and I don't envy your lack of sleep and the sheer hard work coming your way very soon:D

Recording will be a thing of the past, HoRec postings will be snatched in between sleep and feeding and tidying and, and, and......:D

I stopped at two girls, both teenagers now. One is on secondment this week to the Police cos she wants to join up after College and the other one is determined to have a career in music, she will go to a music College in a couple of years.

Nobody picked up on my Comment on American Idol that I posted. Are you all enjoying it?

American idol?

Whats that?

Seriously though as geeky as it may sound I don't watch much TV and when I do it'll be the history channel or discovery.
Watch Survivor? No,but if there's a show on how a refrigerator works I'm there!
My guilty pleasure is VH-1's behind the music.
I do get in quite a bit of cartoon network as my kids are watching that quite a bit.
The way musical groups/stars are manufactured makes me ill. It's a bit ironic that when musicians finally got the tools to make quality recordings unfettered by financial and time restraints the actual quality of the music has ceased to be a factor in making it.
Auto tune, canned tracks/lipsyncing,silocone and marketing hype seem to be the recipe for sucess these days.:(

So Chuck, are you all done baby making?
Is two enough?
My wife brought up the three word the other day...I said...
What are you friggin' nuts! :D

Paul - On last night's American Idol - yes, I'm man enough to admit to watching it occasionally; but, of course, I'll watch anything on TV that moves - anyway, on last night's show they had on the winner of the English show. I just have to say that as bad as the American version has been, yours must have been immensely worse.

He sang what I imagine was his "hit single." I guess the 1910 Fuitgum Company had better watch out. Somehow, I had mistakenly thought that bubble gum music went out of style 30 years ago.

Auto tune, canned tracks/lipsyncing,silocone and marketing hype seem to be the recipe for sucess these days
I just wanted to let you know, AR, that the silicone didn't work for me. I guess America's not ready for great boobs with hair on them.

Yeah, I think so. I feel I'm doing my part for zero population growth :D

My wife brought up the three word the other day...I said...

"Nuts" being the operative word. Don't let 'em touch those.

Paul, I'm gonna need some survival tips on raising two girls. My four year-old and I get along great, but experience shows that women are pack animals:rolleyes:

How very, very true:(

In "our" day, your choice of music was a style of protest against the way the world was being run. Dylan, R.Stones, Hendrix, free love, ani-war etc. All that has gone. WTF's to protest about? Lots actually, but this generation has it all spoon fed to em so what motivation have they got to protest?
I think you are a lucky man you don't know what American Idol is, ignorance is bliss:)
Chuck, I don't know what advice I can give you to raise two daughters. You are right, women are pack animals. I had the rabbit on my side once upon a time, but he died:( One thing I would add is to stay away from criticising any boyfriends, just grit your teeth and hope the'll see sense:D And ignore ther temper tantrums (Just like you do their Mother's!)
I think with any kids, if you can bring em up to know what is right and what is wrong and get em to stay doing right, that is a remarkable achievement in itself.

Mike wrote:

I love em:D
You are right, the UK version of American Idol, Pop Idol (must have taken a wizard to think up these titles?) was a dirge, excrutiating to watch. I will admit there were some fine singers and some good performances but as for content? Oh dear......:( But my family were addicted, ( not me, I would leave the room and go record something:) it was always going to be a guy that won cos its the girls (teenagers, moms and grannies) that do the voting:rolleyes: I told my family that I suspected Gareth (the eventual winner) was gay and they all beat up on me. So I had a great big grin when it was announced afterwards that he was. Not that I have anything against gays, but my family voted for him based on his "cuteness". Puke:rolleyes:

I see in the press that our esteemed leader, Tony Blair, is meeting Gearge Shrub at the ranch this weekend to discuss how to invade Iraq. Can't you just imagine the conversation? It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

I'm makin music this weekend, and compared to the talks between our two leaders, I know which activity will make the world a safer place. Yes, you are right, the Camp David talks, you've heard my music making then?:D

It sounds as though this Iraq thing is weighing heavy on your mind Paul.
It would sure be nice if we never had to go to war again, but just remember the peace treaty that was once brokered by Neville Chamberlin.
I guess what I'm saying is as far as saddam is concered it's not a question of if but when.
It's a crappy situation any way you look at it...no win.
Reading some of the more political threads it seems as though non-americans (a lot,not all) seem to put the responsibilities of the world on Americas shoulders. If we do something we're violent cowboys trying to be policemen to the world,if we don't do anything we're selfish not willing to share our vast resources to make the world a better place.
The results of nuetrality in WWI &WWII were devastating to say the least.
Personally I'd like to see dependence on arab oil go way down and lack of funding would probably nueter those extremists.Unfortunatly I think it will take a major crisis for attitudes to change and I blame the consumers as much as big business for this.

Okay my apoligies for going political from this point forward I'll keep it to sports music and family life.

Chuck I hope you have more than one bathroom in your house those women can wear out a mirror!

Well in my book fall is here I have two cherry trees in my backyard and most of the leaves have already fallen off.My boy's in school and football is starting.

I could give a rats ass about baseball as we have'nt had a real team here in years.
It's funny Bud said we could'nt compete unless we built a new stadium, but once it was built an already bad team got worse.

Lastly I've got nothing against gay guys, they just improve the odds for straight guys getting a good catch.;)
