Problem: I just purchsed all this new stuff and I'm quite familiar with most midi and DAW devices, applications PC&MAC, etc. I've used a plethora of software programs but this is the first set-up using USB midi.
First of all, I can't get Cubase to respond to midi. However, I can get the LED's on the Motu Fastlane to respond on midi input from the keyboard controller. Outgoing messages are likewise activated but only through The Free MIDI applpication under midi within its set-up devices panel. Anyway, after opening Cubase 5.0, it seems there is no midi response at all indicated on the transport control. Under the Cubase midi set up there's an OMS option for midi but it is rendered innactive or should I say, Cubase indicates as such: No OMS. This leads to my next problem...
The MOTU manual says to download OMS from it's WEB-site if this should be your preference. Ok...I did. I downloaded OMS 2.3.8. I followed the steps to install...that part worked ok. However, when I tried to get OMS to search for midi devices, I get this error number: 1010. Before searching for midi devices, I'm also asked to select either printer port or modem port. My modem is internal and ofcourse I don't have a din plug for a printer as with older Macs. At that point, the application tells me to close out all other applications and restart my computer. It seems to me that the OMS is designed for MACS with printer ports in mind and that it cannot recognize the MOTU USB FASTLANE causing an error. I am at a total loss here. Within Cubase, I can't select Free midi but the application does infact work with MOTU Fastlane. OMS 2.3.8 seems to be out dated and doesn't recognize USB protocols. What can I do? I've tried to get support from Cubase as a registered user and ofcourse I get no response. I need help fast!
