Oh damn man! That sucks. I wrecked mine in 2005, but it was my own damn fault. Riding with bald tires and hit some sand in a curve. Matter of fact, it was shortly after this photo was taken. I won't bother posting the gruesome details of the bashed tins and controls, or my broken ankle.

Wow...

Seriously...that is a cool lookin' bike...what is it? And is it stock? MAN! Whoever penned that really knew what they were doing.

I don't ride except the occasional dirt bike but I like motorcycles...my brother had an Interceptor 500 "way back when" and then something else and then a Honda ST1100...daily driver. Laid his first one down on a club tour...heading downhill into a turn and applied too much front brake on a turn and there was something foreign on the pavement. Think he was going 45-ish and actually jumped off the bike just before his leg would have gotten pinned and stayed on his feet. The ST rammed a guard rail. Fork totalled and therefore bike totalled. He got another ST1100 after that. Now he has a BMW F800ST.

Thanks man. It's is Yamaha Road Star Warrior. It's a 2002 model and I've put 80,000+ miles on it, believe it or not. It is stock, with the exception of the mini-fairing and lower cowl, which are from the Yamaha accessory book.

Funny thing, I'm uncomfortable riding a dirt bike, but put me on a 4 wheeler and I have no fear and will get seriously stupid with jumps and turns.:D Your brother has had some nice bikes. Hope he didn't get injured in any of the mishaps.

Just cuts and bruises.

MAN Yamaha did good with that bike...I'm not helping you cope with the pending sale am I. 80K miles...that's a lot for a motorcycle. Don't know how many miles were on it when you took the picture but it looks brand-new. Yamaha really does well with so many of their products.

That's good, no broken bones for your brother.

If I remember correctly, that was taken at about the 50k mark. It's held up VERY well. It's the first year of the bike (and everyone always says NEVER buy the first year) and there were a few recalls on it. None of them ever affected me. It is a very sharp looking bike and LOTS of fun to take into the corners, believe it or not.

I can deal with parting with it as long as it goes for the greater good (house and recording gear) and the buyer takes care of it. I'll miss it for sure, but if it gets my fiancee and I into a new house, so be it.;)

Then again, if she finds out I bought 2 of these Tascam decks, she might be moving in by herself (she makes about 3 times what I do.:D).

When I read your comment about cornering and then look at the bike I think I can see why...the way the lines flow in a taper from the front to the back...center of gravity is low but it has that nice fat tire in the back. Bet its a kick.

So you got the pair of TSR-8's? How do they look?

I got...

...one of them! I chickened out and just picked up one. I'm still debating getting the other one by this coming weekend though. I'll post pics and more info later. Already ordered a new pinch roller (just in case) and a roll of SM911 and a take up reel.:D

Ha, discretion is the better part of valor JJ. You'll go far. After my Studer 089 console turned up on the doorstep unannounced (oh, and the Hammond Tonewheel organ too) I've learnt to have my new (but old) purchases first delivered to work where they can safely sit around until I have figured out how to best get them up into the attic, ah, sound laboratory....

:D

I just got the one so far. Sorry, didn't see your post when I posted the "update". I've already got a new pinch roller coming from Tascam and some tape and take up reel coming from US Recording. I got the better of the two. Cosmetically, both are in pretty good shape. The top of this one has some minor scratches on the top, but the face is untouched. The only thing I noticed was that the left reel table has an ever so slight wobble to it. I didn't get a good look at the heads (I know, that should have been the FIRST thing I did), but the transport worked beautifully and everything works. The other one had a stuck play button. I'm not sure if that is serious or not or how easy that is to fix. Depending on what happens in the next few days, I might drop the other $300 and pick the other one up. Worst case scenario, I keep it for a spare or for parts. I'll try to get some photos taken of the deck I brought home and post them up tomorrow evening.

On the motorcycle, it was designed for corners and I've pushed it more than any sane person should on a 650 lb motorcycle. It is an absolute blast. I've hung with and passed up guys on sport bikes going through corners at times. Watching them shake their heads in disbelief makes me smile. Since my boy has come to be, I've backed off from pushing the envelope on it. It does have a 200 series tire on the back for grip.

EXACTLY! I work in downtown Houston and I'm not about to carry some 50+ lb beast two blocks, up an elevator, and then across the parking garage into my car. If it were easier, I would definitely have done it. I've got a MD-801 coming to my work. A little easier to handle than the TSR-8. I can easily stuff it into a rack and the fiancee would be none the wiser.:p

So what about the ATS-500?

You can usually take care of that wobble by monkeying with the reel table set screws...are you sure its the table and not just the reel adapter?

I had problems with the wobble on the reel hubs, There is a thread I started about a month ago about that problem. Some of the TSR-8's had reel hubs that were machined out of spec, I had a machine shop fix mine.

VP...

Was the machine shop able to just turn the reel table or did they have to fill in the center hole and re-bore the hole?

I decided to say to hell with it and I'm going to pick up the other deck and the rest of the goodies this afternoon if I can meet up with the guy.:D

Pics and an update:

I finally got around to getting a few pics of my new addition. Now I'm just waiting on the new pinch roller, tape, and empty reel.

The deal with the 2nd unit seems to have soured a bit. He got a better offer from someone else, that wants him to drive 4 hours (one way) for it to happen. He isn't really keen on driving up there for that and now he wants more $ since he found a couple of the snakes and another reel of tape. Granted, it's only up to $400 now, but I've already spent too much between this deck (plus the roller, tape, reel, and about to order the snakes) and the Tascam CD player last week. I think I'll offer $350 and see what happens. I figure if I have to, I can always unload the 2nd unit and the ATS-500 to get some money back.
