MOJOVOODOO,
Read up on the Behringer MDX2200 Compressor/Limiter. Its 2 separate channels or stereo, expander/gate with adjustable peak limiter. Lots of nice features including sidechain. Do a search over in the "Rack" forum for Behringer comments. Got mine new off Ebay for $155 US. I think everyone is out of stock until mid December so Ebay might be your only choice. Download the manual at http://www.behringer.com to get more info. Good Luck

GOOD GRIEF --- for $50 bucks more you could get yourself an RNC!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is the same one I use the "composer pro" or something. Use the compression for layin' down vocals and limiting for beefing up final mixes. Lots of knobs and flashing LED's, too.

I got mine brand new from Sam Ash for 89.00!
Hey bvaleria, I didn't purchase the RNC yet as the extra money I had ear-marked for gear was stolen!!!!!! ...by my WIFE!!!!

Yo Bruce,
Spent the other $50 on a patchbay. Wanna guess what brand?? Damn, it doesn't have any flashing lights or buttons on it!!! Oh well - Tis the season so I can hang some Christmas lights on it. Uh oh. Anyone know how to get Christmas tree tinsel out of the patchbay jacks?

I'm with bruce here..save some more money and get an RNC, they really are a great tool!

$50???? Well, wish I found that kind of deal when I was setting up - paid about $2000 for my patchbay (7 Re'an balanced bays) - no flashing lights either - but they did ship me a Christmas tree all the way from London - I had to provide my own tinsel though!!

But mind you, even 50 bucks on a Behringer patchbay is TOO much!!!

;)

A Magnetized screwdriver might do it, DD.

Sounds like you know the wharehouse guy, Mr Q, and he gave you a special "back door deal".

That splains it Q, . . .nice score, a gear junkies dream come true. I musta been sucked up in a vacuuos black hole called - work - and missed the whole deal - or I woulda went to the big city to check it out. Dang . . . wish I had a Sam Ash in walking distance of my job, hell I'd even settle for a guitar satan or a mars. Instead I got a "bend over and grab your ankles" joint nearby, fulla prima donnas and rock stars. Worthless bastards full pop me on freakin' picks.

ummmmmm............................

pardon my ignorance.as my questions reveal thAT I AM FAIRLY NEW TO MIXING/MASTERING,ENGINEERING(oops caps lock)(typing too),so RNC?please embellish?their site?is it a model name?am i not recognizing abbreviations? i guess i been spendin' too much time lookin' at mics.but, all please forgive, until last year i believed that if a recording didn't sound good,it was 'cause the performance sucked.thank you soooooooooooooooo much!

mojo - don't pay no attention to bruce less he's talkin techneek - he likes to take that elevated stance soon's you sound humble.

The RNC is either the Really Nice Compressor or some kind of nurse.

Plus, you're still right about performance - it's more important than sound. You can be forgiven for doubting yourself on that score on this page, though. So many people listening to sound here.

i thank you ,papa-sahn

wow cool little unit, huh?i like the faq's,except ,has anyone used it for mastering?i want,no,need it to pump,PUMP up my mixes, and i have tried an overall master effect routed internally ,i slowly tried each effect, from memory,i think it goes:
COMPRESSER DE-ESSER
ENHANCER(this one baffles me still,it kind of takes one frequency and lets you push it up or mix it in,it works best for a radio effect, but adds noise)
E.Q.(low,low mid,low mid q,high mid,high mid q,high,volume)
CHORUS,or FLANGE or PHASE,or DOUBLIN'(modulation?)
DELAY

so,i tried a little of each separately, then tried what i though would work, compared a mix without, then on .and no difference.i put on so much effect that i gave a new meaning to transparency.

so,.............anyone ..........?

by the way.........

i realized how vague i sounded.i am presently using just the boss br-8 and mixing straight down to a philips standalone cd burner.satisfied(somewhat)w/the mix,yet it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo quiet.it lacks MOXIE!

(anyway,that's how the discussion started)

THANX

mjvd,
I toiled and sweated over s-ware processors for many months and my mixes never came to life till I went with outboard gear.
