I remixed, trying to reduce the lowmid over-emphasis without making it sound thin. Am I going in the right direction?

Come Together Remixed

Sounds better to me but I suspect ear fatigue is affecting my judgement.

If anybody wants to take a shot at mixing the tracks let me know and I'll put them up. I'm sure most of our resident mixers could whip up a better mix of these 5 tracks than I have.

And SnakeDog, you're the man!

Tim

Tim, still sounds awesome, and I want to sing it everytime I hear it....
I'd love a chance at trying to mix this, if you put the tracks up. I hear nothing wrong with what you have done, but it could be fun to see what happens..... :D

Yep, this is a little more even.. I didn't think it needed much. There is sort of a hollowness I'm hearing, though, can't pint it down. I'd love to play with the raw tracks if you don't mind making them available....

Raw Tracks for Mixing

OK, have at it guys. Here are the raw tracks. There are five 24 bit/44.1 mono wav files. I’m looking forward to hearing the mixes!

nylon gtr solo
acoustic backing 1
acoustic backing 2
nylon backing
nylon licks

ido1957 – thanks… those spots mentioned are all actually flatpicked muted arpeggios in the lead gtr line! I think the tube thing did accentuate those in a certain way.

Dogman, Sonixx amd Llarion – thanks for the 2nd listen.

Ok, I won't say I could improve upon Tim's mix of this, so I decided to do something a bit different......I let a lot of the dynamics come through....a bit more of the lower string sounds, and some of the finger slides. I also did a mix that had a very retro sound, but this was kind of interesting.....

Dynamic Remix
Not nearly as clean as the original, more of a Jam....

And almost forgot, Thanks Tim. Kind of interesting to see what could happen to all of this with just a bit of messing around. So many possibilities.....

And now you got the results. :)

I couldn't resist; my fretless bass was just calling to me....

Of course; it's been too long since I played my fretless, so forgive the intonation... ;)

Come Together, so I did.

Hope you like it... I think I got some presence and "meat" out of the guitars that seemed lacking to me...

Gee Tim. You brought yourself to this? Nice work, but I'm disenchanted.
 And I am not refering to the performance.
What happened ?

Dogman and Llarion… can’t wait to listen to these mixes in the morning (party going on here at the moment and can’t listen yet). :)

7string – thanks buddy.

Tonio – Thanks for the listen and I appreciate your directness. :) Well, I guess it’s just a matter of personal taste and background… I liked the Beatles as a kid even though my own playing wasn’t in that style, then admired them more after studying music more seriously later, then appreciated their (with George Martin of course) arranging and recording skills as I began to study that area also. So while playing arrangements of pop/rock/blues isn’t my main musical interest, and certainly isn’t my forte, it’s something I love to do none the less. EDIT: Or did I miss your point entirely and you were referring to my use of piezo transducer over mic's?

Some very interesting approaches definitely. Dogman’s raw mix sound with the emphasis on the chunk-chunk-chunk gtrs  ; Llarion’s upper-mid emphasis on the main gtr, lessening of the backing gtrs and an added fretless bass line to fill out the range with some real low end :) – both guys going for a fairly dry mix. Don’s sounded very different in the verb/slapback going on and the EQ’ing to separate the main solo gtr and the lead lines. And that vibraslap  to mark the close of the bridge was cool in a gamelan gong kind of way.

Tim

No , you got my point- me thinks :D Just giving you a hard time. I understand the interest in the Beatles. Being a guitarist-who wouldn't have those aspirations/interests with what the Beatles and George Martin excudes!!
Nothing wrong with searching other facets, I guess it keeps us sane

Just admire your " main " strength more.

BTW Tim, I've got a Samba tune , if you're interested in adding some of your "magic" to.

Well, after reading Tonios post, I concur that classical is probably your main focus, and a strong point, but also, from the perspective of someone who interacts with you on this board, Seeing you do something out of what we might call "your norm" makes me smile. When Monkey came aboard, I gained new respect for you as just a plain ole human....(compliment here...). Not that I didn't respect you before, mind you, but to see a faceless entitiy do something I can relate to, brought face to this person. And to hear you play something that is not what most would immediately recognize as Tim Lawler, just due to the fact it was a Beatles cover, bumped you up a bit more in our humble household. Makes you seem like a real person, with a real life, and interests. Not just a faceless chartacter I interact with once in a while.

Slight rant, and not directed at anyone. Just said, because I wanted to.
Now, do we hear Tim do some form of hard rock????? I'll sing for ya..... :D

Dogman, thanks for putting it so eloquently. My thoughts too. You said it better than I :D

Now if I could get Tim to play a ROCK Samba ;)

I think Tim should roundabout-reciprocate by singing "Schafe koennen sicher weiden" over my Bach prelude :p

Thanks, Tonio. I think Tim can play whtaever he wants, but may need a bit of prodding.... ;)
So, do we call him nasty names, steal Monkey from him, or call his wife and bug her until she MAKES him do something?????

Dogman and Tonio, you guys are way too nice.

mshilarious, all I have to say is, "Halten Sie nicht Ihren Atem".

Tonio, cool... where can I hear the samba?

Tim

Other then the fact that the guitars were recorded to hot this sounds great

The guitar in my left ear esp is distorting, the right side distorts some as well.
