Noce version here. I wanted to do something similar, but couldn't figure out what to do. You did an excellent job. Very rockin, but still traditional. Cool.
Ed

Thanks, Ed! I appreciate it...glad you liked it!

Here's mine...

The Little Drummer Boy...

This is very well done. An arrangement this far from the traditional really jarred me; and I'm not usually inclined toward this kind of "contemporization" but it's exceedingly well done. Clean, funky, and somehow, suitably reverent. Nice!!

Ok, here's one I threw together. Best I could do with a drum machine and the best vocal performance I could muster with the COLD FROM HELL!!!!! But I wanted to get it together before this thread faded into oblivion... which it has... ;)

Nah, I won't let this one die till after Christmas...

Nice!! If the drums were meatier, this would be killer.. I love your voice, wish I could sing with this much soul...

Every season, I get the rare opportunity to write for some myriad of musicians and crazy people.....it's always a TON of work, but worth it.

Last Christmas I had the opportunity to write for a full orchestra.

Christmas Overture 2004-Sjones arranger/orchestrator

Anyway, not a guitar piece, but something to give you guys a glimpse of some of the other stuff I do.
-----------------------------

This next piece was from the previous year's event.

O COME EMMANUEL
Sjones O Come Emmanuel PERFORMED LIVE AT MY CHURCH (my arrangement with a "Matrix" and "Evanescence" feel...this is totally based on the soundtrack of "Revolutions" and an Evanesence song) I'm the arranger/orchestrator/director/guitarist, electric sitar with choir, orchestra (horns, strings), full contemporary rhythm section; - (there is a tapping solo around 5:00)
------------------------

Back in 2001 I had the pleasure of arranging this next piece, using a 25 piece percussion ensemble, full band and orchestra.

It was one of the highlights of my career.

Here is the audio and some pics taken from the video, to give you an idea.

It's a big file, but worth the journey, I think.

It goes from an ethereal world music feel, to full on Modern Rock.

Sjones-Drummer Boy feature 2001 LIVE

Beginning with a single percussionist and ending with the works.
Ending with a bang....

There was no full, standard drum kit on this, the kit sound towards the end, is a combination of 4 guys whacking cymbals and snares, with concert bass drum. (with the loop and the rest of the people hitting things)

Here's a link to the segmented video files:

DRUMMER BOY VIDEO PAGE
--------------------

On this next one, I just set out to create a traditional classical vibe with this one, and went for the Haydn thing.

It's a String Quartet, plus an extra violinist for the solo.

O Come All Ye Faithful LIVE 2002

OTHER CHRISTMAS STUFF:

O Come Emmanuel -as Tower of Power Sjones arranger- recorded live 1998

Anyway, if you have time, check these out.

Peace, and happy holidays.

Scott

Holy poop, hoss, THIS had to feel good! Wow, nice! Definitely hear the John Williams, the bombastic mid and low brass, the tinkly percussive accents... wonderful!!

"..Emmanuel " is blisteringly powerful, man... the sitar is an amazing touch in a piece like this!!!

The Drummer Boy arrangement is flat WICKED!!!! Love the way it builds all the way through... GREAT groove in the percussion section, it's hard to be that settled with the mechanics working that way... awesome players!!

The Haydn style arrangement is lovely, nice embellishments!!

Have no fear, Jeff. I am here to save the day....and I have a song that sounds pretty bad. I did it last night. Was playing with my wifes acoustic. Kind of sucks, but oh, well....

Away In The Manger

Dog, you are a trip, man.. :) I agree with the Tom Waits reference!

Damn, I am so sitting here feeling a thrash metal version of "Deck The Halls"....
Is thrash metal allowed? That would be fun as hell!

Go for it, dude!!!

Away in the Manager This one was done about 5 years ago on a Tascam 388

Silent Night This was done last year with a housewife who has never sang outside of her house or in front of anyone before. I think she did a good job, I could have done better.

The First Noel
Same singer from Silent Night up above. 1st time trying anything with an upright bass so it is probably too bass heavy.

Nice acoustic sound. What is it? Love the Tom Waits comparison. Sounds right on to me!

Thanks, Llarion! The perils of living in the middle of nowhere with no drummers around. :(

I wouldn't exactly call it 'soul' so much as mucus...

Well, lbanks just gave me some tracks to Drummer boy. I will have to get to work on that one.... :D

Ok, lbanks did a sweet, jazzy version of Drummer Boy...He called it Bummer Droy. I used the original words, as I couldn't do much with it, other than bastardize it my way. :D
If'n you want, listen up....It's at least entertaining......
