At one time I was going to do REALLY rockin' versions of all the popular Christmas songs but then Trans-Siberian Orchestra happened and I gave up.... QUICKLY...
theres aguy on here "DAVIDK" who im pretty sure has something to do with that outfit ....not that this info has any bearing on what this thread is about...just saying... :o

Yeah, Dave was in one of the touring TSO bands playing violin. Don't you just hate guys like that.

Sure would like to get their engineer/producer/ME to come on here and enlighten us. Man, those guys are awesome!

I remember when they first came out. People kept telling me it was some orchestra playing with Metallica using a different name. hahahahaha

Well I've never been in the cave (the name itself is a bit intimidating) but I may just seek him out. That was one of my brainstorms YEARS ago, to mix a rock band with an orchestra only doing classical music, not just Christmas songs. Then about 5 years ago I saw the TV commercial with them and was blown away. The next year I couldn't remember who that was and then the commercial came on again and I got the CD. Man, those guys are awesome! I'd just like to know how they put all those elements together to make them cohesive. I'm WAY you early in my mixing career to attempt something like that. It's just beyond me how THEY accomplished it. The engineer must have banged his head on a few walls when this project came up. hahaha

Thanks for the info!

Another TSO connection: TSO/Savatage bassist Johnny Middleton is my A/C guy! (I presume it to be his superhero secret identity...) The Middleton family is one of the most laid-back bunch of guys you ever want to meet, and they run the most ethical, efficient, and trustworthy A/C businerss I've ever encountered! Johnny is ultra cool. (No, that wasn't an A/C pun... :) )

Thank you for the listen, sir!! I appreciate the nice comments :)

Here's mine...

The Little Drummer Boy...

Ok, here's one I threw together. Best I could do with a drum machine and the best vocal performance I could muster with the COLD FROM HELL!!!!! But I wanted to get it together before this thread faded into oblivion... which it has... ;)

Every season, I get the rare opportunity to write for some myriad of musicians and crazy people.....it's always a TON of work, but worth it.

Last Christmas I had the opportunity to write for a full orchestra.

(Composing, arranging, orchestrating and playing guitar is all I do for a living, so this was for hire, and performed for 10,000 people over 2 days.)

I contracted the orchestra and conductor.

Anyway...

John Williams was my model for this, as I think he writes really accessible music that still has rich harmony and rhythmic life. If you're a fan of his, you'll hear countless references to everything from Superman, Harry Potter, Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars, and his American Journey Olympics themes..... I basically did this in short themes from the "Hallelujah Chorus" "Joy to the World", "Angels We Have Heard on High", "Hark the Herald", "Angels From the Realms of Glory", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "O Come All Ye Faithful", and then reprised "Joy" (with a wink to the Nutcracker) and "Hark", and worked in "For Unto Us" at the end. This was basically a recording direct to C.D. from the board.

Christmas Overture 2004-Sjones arranger/orchestrator

Anyway, not a guitar piece, but something to give you guys a glimpse of some of the other stuff I do.
-----------------------------

This next piece was from the previous year's event.

O COME EMMANUEL
Sjones O Come Emmanuel PERFORMED LIVE AT MY CHURCH (my arrangement with a "Matrix" and "Evanescence" feel...this is totally based on the soundtrack of "Revolutions" and an Evanesence song) I'm the arranger/orchestrator/director/guitarist, electric sitar with choir, orchestra (horns, strings), full contemporary rhythm section; - (there is a tapping solo around 5:00)
------------------------

Back in 2001 I had the pleasure of arranging this next piece, using a 25 piece percussion ensemble, full band and orchestra.

It was one of the highlights of my career.

Here is the audio and some pics taken from the video, to give you an idea.

It's a big file, but worth the journey, I think.

It goes from an ethereal world music feel, to full on Modern Rock.

Sjones-Drummer Boy feature 2001 LIVE

Beginning with a single percussionist and ending with the works.
Ending with a bang....

There was no full, standard drum kit on this, the kit sound towards the end, is a combination of 4 guys whacking cymbals and snares, with concert bass drum. (with the loop and the rest of the people hitting things)

Here's a link to the segmented video files:

--------------------

On this next one, I just set out to create a traditional classical vibe with this one, and went for the Haydn thing.

It's a String Quartet, plus an extra violinist for the solo.

O Come All Ye Faithful LIVE 2002

OTHER CHRISTMAS STUFF:

O Come Emmanuel -as Tower of Power Sjones arranger- recorded live 1998

Anyway, if you have time, check these out.

Peace, and happy holidays.

Great...

I post a song to contribute and the thread dies... no comments on my song that I labored through being so sick I could barely stand up... now I have to deal with this AND my dog died, my cat went to the pound, my wife left me, my truck was repo'd, all my guitars were stolen along with my computer, my hamster decided to see what a garbage disposal REALLY does, all our Christmas presents were destroyed in a fire when I tried the Tim Taylor Wiring For Dummies book, my son ran away AND I broke a fingernail... sheesh... just freakin' figgers...

Have no fear, Jeff. I am here to save the day....and I have a song that sounds pretty bad. I did it last night. Was playing with my wifes acoustic. Kind of sucks, but oh, well....

Cool tune. I really like the cleaner guitar tone. It's pretty good. Vocals are good also.
Cool tune, man.

Nice tune man...

Cool dark voice you`ve got there

Damn, I am so sitting here feeling a thrash metal version of "Deck The Halls"....
Is thrash metal allowed? That would be fun as hell!

here are a bunch I did the last couple of days as a live, 1 man band, with real drums and cymbals.
