And I only used a Studio Project B1 microphone with a UX2 interface with phantom power 'n Adobe Audition 2.0....
Only? What more do you need? Its a decent mic and a good program. Audition is used in half the radio stations in the US to do voiceovers.
I might not know about engineering 'n mixing but I DO KNOW MUSIC....
Then show us. Do something more original.
I'm on your side MC. I dont discount any artform, there is a lot of rap I think is excellent. What that music has is originality, biting sarcasm and social commentary, solid production values, humor (in some cases), etc.
What those successful rappers also have is chutzpah, which is a yiddish word that basically means "balls". If you come in here and disagree with the comments, the worst thing you can do is start insulting everybody. If you believe in your music, that is all that matters. I make classical music, I dont expect everybody to like it or understand it. I am more of an outsider than you are.
song just like Kanye West, Joe Budden, 'n several other rappers did....
Just because they are famous doesnt mean squat.
Do something DIFFERENT. Use a vocoder, change the songs tempo, play some of it backwards, use a flange effect, add some humor, change the feel, place a historic quote from Abraham Lincoln in the text, come up with a different beat, speak in an accent, have the text be in 5/4 against a 4/4 background, put in a musical subtheme, quote another rap song, speak in Klingon or chinese, sample a dog barking and put it in there, put historical tv clips in there.
Go back and study the 80s rap. That stuff was unique and different.
As for the mix? Its fine.
