Good condition Vs-880 with manual, 500 bucks. Should i do it?

I would save your money and get a 1680. The 880 is limited to 4 tracks simultaneous recording.
If its the original 880 it may only have a 500meg hard drive which also limits you unless you use a computer in conjunction with it like I do. I use cakewalk with it. Also the preamps wont be as good persay as the 1680. I never use them as I have a mackie which are much better.
Just my opinion.

Im lookin at gettin me an 880.........maybe something bigger like the 1680.........i got the 840GX.........but im getting tired with it.........how much better is the 880GX than the 840GX............and what about the 880EX compared to the 840GX???

Be careful to compare prices on, for example, eBay.

Also, be careful of comparing apples to apples. For example, a VS880 EX is beter/different from a VS880 Xpanded. The EX allows the mastering software and has a tilted lighted display. This might be small, but I've had an Xpanded since they came out and I really wish I had the tilted, lighted display. The display was the biggest complaint when they first came out and it can get very annoying.

VS880

I have an original VS880,the one that came with a 540 MB storage.Well,I've had all the upgrades, and it works fine! An external storage drive is suggested-------I archive stuff on a CD.It's true that the 1680s are getting lower too, because some people are upgrading to the 24 track. Also,as suggested, get an outboard preamp.

Yup. That's the one I've got. And yup, SCSI Zip drive or CD burner (or DAT) is a must. Otherwise the HD fills up and you either permanently delete songs or stop recording.

Be that as it may, it seems EX's are going for the same price as Xpanded's. That's crazy. Unless you're getting it for $300, get the EX.
