To make a long story short - S.E. supplies parts to all the other mic companies - Neumann included

You mean there's [presumably cheap] Chinese parts in my Schoeps, Microtech Gefell and Neumann mics? I better sell them right away before everyone finds out, get [more than] my money back. Then I could buy the mics that you recommend because they're better anyway. I must be a sap.

Rats. Just when I thought I was done with the mic acquisition thing.

Why the vitriolic questioning and pussy-sarcasm (again)? Why not just simply ask, instead of being a dick? You ARE a sap, for being such a pussy and childish - all you needed to do is ask dude...you WOULD be very interested to know some things about S.E. that wwere explained to me. I wa sjust passing on info from people I respect.

But be that as it may - I have asked to your delight to be completely deleted from this forum - I hope I asked the right folks - and shall leave you, save a couple really kind, normal guys, in the company of your (mostly) wannabe selves... to the cool folks who make up the part of this forum I wanted to appeal to, I completely apologize for being a catalyst for such inflammatory remarks all the way around. I never meant to cause any disruption at all - just a dialogue about a mic, and right out of the gate it was "oh yeah, proove it" and "you bs'er"; compelete ad hominem attacks - and for what reason? Like from the "Not Anotha Brutha" dude - WTF have YOU done Dawg? And nope - I don't spin whatever or spit rhymes - rap is the silliest form of music (if one can call it that) I've ever heard - people seek me out to produce their rap albums, why? Who knows - anybody can talk to backing tracks. Direct me to all your Gold albums and I'll buy every one in the store. Ton Loc...
Most of you folks seem to be highly invested in being highly suspicious and judgmental - for what? After reading a few of these angry posts I feel like I've been transported to 7th grade..

Maybe when you discover more about S.E and what they do you'll have an "oops" moment - I doubt it though - I've never once seen so much insult and vitriol directed at someone for no reason at all...seriously f.ucked up - but hey - it's one of those forums where most of the participants are - well, who they are...it's been pretty funny. Shocking at times, but funny. I won't be looking back to any replies here so don't waste the space.

To the few considerate, kind guys who gave me the benefit of suspicion and doubt - good luck recording and making music, and thank you for your kindness...

And Paul Robison's post can be regarded as reliable and unbiased?

Get real, while ever you are in the pocket of that potentially disallusioned English family your credibility is too low for zero

Come on Chris, give the guy a break... He's going to need it...

Peace Chessrock...

Hey GoMano,

This is a tough place...I know. You and I did some stuff together long time ago. I also worked with Billy Ward as well. He is a strong supporter of our products, but he is also an amazing drummer and a hell of a nice guy.

You may not remember me as it was maybe 18 years ago, and I was doing other things then, like mixing and tracking for a ton of people, but let me point out it was the days when Ton Loc was mixing on the Allen & Heath CMC24. Do you remember that automation shit man...That was paying hell...

Anyway, to those on this group, I know this guy and there is no reason for him to lie. I am sure he likes the SE mic. Of course, I would love to get him some of mine to do a shoot-out with, but lets not get into that here. He is real, just more like I was when I first came on these threads. Just not totally knowing the way things are done, and he has a ton of talent and does not deserve to be hit like this. We were more in tune the way things were done in a studio, then a BBS. So, give him a break.

Don't give it up here Robb, and don't let them get you down. I had a much harder time in the beginning. Wow, it has been a long time man..... Peace ...

Hi GoMano.

I’m chiming in a little late here, but I see you’ve met the gang already. :D

If you’d like to know why everyone rewarded your enthusiasm with skepticism check out this thread.
this thread.

It’s a classic example of why we sometimes take the guilty until proven innocent approach around here. And, to be honest, I was sort of wondering about you myself until Alan spoke up.

You’ve got to admit, it’s a mighty bold thing for a stranger to ride into town, tie his horse to the hitching post, and step up to folks claiming that he recorded Roberta Flack, Kenny G, The RH Factor, Todd Rundgren, and that a cheap Chinese mic is better then all those expensive Europeans you mentioned.

But I’ll tell you what folks love, and they’ll love you for it - sound clips! That way they can hear what you are hearing and decide for themselves. If you ever get time to do a shootout and post mp3 sound clips (15 second ea is plenty long enough, but longer is fine too) of the H3500 compaired to all those mics, that would be too cool!!! And yes, please include whatever Studio Projects mics Alan wants to send you. We’d love to hear them in there too!

And BTW, welcome to the forum! Hope we didn’t scare you away, or anything.

I don't know. What does the "B" stand for in "B3"?

I actually thought Bill Ward had a pretty decent voice, to boot.

Remember a couple tunes he sang on "Never Say Die" and "Technical Ecstacy."

He's certainly got an interesting voice and style.

I am sure all can take your advice and have non-pro recordings as evidenced by the audio examples posted at your website..

I have nothing to hide. I do professional-level work. I get paid for it, and I earn every penny. You can listen to my work here:

I appreciate the opportunity for the free advertisement, by the way.

Now where's yours? Come on, man, I'm dyin' to hear your brilliant work, Acorec. From the sounds of things, one would think you're the next Quincy Jones or Sir George. :D

Wow ... I've never seen someone get so pissed at a couple of tongue-in-cheek and skeptical comments. Why are we all so .... precious?

Yes I have an SE mic and it's fine, btw.

Maybe acorec is the next Barnaby Jones ... spamcop style!

Hey Robb,

Were you in GC in Orange County a few weeks ago looking at flame top Schectors? If that was you, you have some serious chops. Wow!

I hope you reconsider and stick around. Those of us who are true "homerecordists" would love to have your input here.

Blessings, Terry

How did a post about mics turn into such angry, vitriolic mudslinging? You don't know me dude - and while I'm sure Harvey - obviously extremely knowledgable - is a great guy, who is he, your dad?

I am supremely sorry for causing such anger and finger wagging - everything I said about the S.E. mics is true - and I in fact have MORE than 40 albums to my name - but that's moot - I only mentioned our respective credit - his more than mine - to lend some creedence to the review.

As for me, since in your omnipotence you are so sure I am an imposter/loudmouth guy who's full of crap: - my name is Robb Howell. I presently produce music for Sony and Sony PlaysStation2 Games. The most recent one released is called "Twisted Metal 2" I used to play with Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) and have recorded 21 albums of my own or as a guest including Mahogany Rush, The RH Factor, Irish, Paul Williams (Allan Holdsworth) and much too many to rename here (I did in the first post) . I have recorded and produced music for several feature films and recently starred in a film with Sean Young, Sally Kirkland & Dianne Ladd called "Forever". I have toured with Foghat, The Outlaws, Mahogany Rush, and appeared live with bassist Stanley Clarke, Sergio Mendez, The Rippingtons and Diane Shuur. I'm 42 years old and have been recording albums since I was 15. I have been on a U.S. Major since I was 21. I have two kids and a wife who is also a well known recording artist (but we'll leave her out of this - don't want mud at her) I joined this forum to share recording experiences and ideas with other people, soemthing I absolutely LOVE doing - and I WILL NOT go away, especialy because of some presumptuous, judgemental little guy's emotional defensiveness and indictment of someone he doesn't know at all. It is so easy to judge on the internet - people like you form these cursory opinions about others without the benefit of a query or anything else-FROM ONE POST!
This Harvey dude would have gotten straght answers had he not initially done what you did (just milder) - Had he asked his questions about qualiftying myself as "okay - how did you guys do it" instead of the coy "And you would be?" stuff I wouldn't have reacted - but he was wagging fingers too. Why? It was a review of a MICROPHONE - I thought this was a group of professionals - it's usually Non-professionals who get so heated when someone makes claims like I did - I did so to lend credibility to the greatness of the mics I was talking about and not just blowing smoke..

Sorry to offend you - but I didn't deserve the blast dude. I understand the skepticism people feel when a guy says "I did this and that" - but all you need do is ask instead of INDICT -and btw - I am VERY proud of my accomplishments - I worked very hard to achieve them, and I am exceptionaly outgoing when helping people do the same. You don't know me, and you should apologize. You would more than anything find a friend than a foe.

This post is a completely different post as your original post. I do apoligize for what I said, but, I can show you many other posts that read almost word for word your original post. Many have made comparisons of a low cost mic to a Neuman. They are all unbelievable.

Woah, relax! Seems like a nice enough guy. Anyhow, lets be honest here, if he's promoting mics, so be it. If he really is (I don't think so) spamming, that just means the personal will check them out, they've still gotta stand up to sounding good. And anyone who doesn't check em out, tis their own fault.

I'm new to this board, so please tell me: do a lot of companies spam these boards to peddle their products? I thought this forum was just musicians and engineer chewing the fat about gear and techniques.

No, not a lot of companies... mostly just one company.

Yeah, which do you mean? Please don't let this be a PMI jibe ... if it is, I'm out!

Do you really need to ask?

"I love you guys."

Thanks! :)
