I was told this. if this is true I am very dissapointed.

currently i track to adats then dump to cubase but was planning on doing away with adats all together soon...

is this accurate?

No. I routinely fly over 16 at a time. If your machine is underpowered, or your buffer/latency settings aren't optimized very well, you can run into troubles when flying in large numbers of tracks- but you most defintely _can_ do more than 8.

right I do that as well via lightpipe. after tracking with adats

but

how about 16 analog inputs (or 12 for that matter) ?

My setup would be a MKII I/O and a Presonus 8 channel digital preamp(this one can route over via light pipe)

There should be no difference, assuming that the clocking scheme is solid. I use the 8 converters in the D1624, and the 8 in the external AC2496, and track 16 simultaneously to the D1624 and to Cubase via lightpipe. Right now I use the D1624 as the word clock master, and distribute it to the Hammerfall and the AC2496 for sync. I have a Lucid GenX6 sitting on the floor behind me for the next time I get a chance to rip stuff apart...

Bits is bits, whether they are coming from external converters via lightpipe or from an external recorder via lightpipe- assuming that the clocking scheme is solid.

hey sounds good then. thanks for the help. i am not in the mood to learn (or buy) more software!
