So I broke down picked up a copy of Home Recording Studio to help me see if I care to make the Sonar leap later this year...

Anyways... I'm having some terrible issues with audio playback and recording.... [sigh]

EXAMPLE: Attempt to play back some recorded audio and after a few seconds (times seem to vary) audio locks up... but I see Audio ENgine Running... the cursor continues to move but no audio is heard.

I've tried many different settings.... I've gone back to my starting ones since I have received no positve results....

PIII[VIA]/Audigy 2 Platnium[With WDM Update]/Windows 2k Pro SP3/WD80GBSE7,200RPM

Current::

Playbak Device: 1: SB Audigy Audio [CC00] 1/2
Record Wave Device: 1: SB Audigy AUdio [CC00]
Num Aux Bus: 2
Num Virt Mains: 4
Audio Driver Bit Depth: 16
Sampling: 48000Hz
File Bit Depth: 16
Buffer Playback Queue: 2
Buffer Size 100.0

Stream > 16 bit data as: 32 bit PCM, Left Justified.
I/O Buffer (KB): 64
Apply Dither: [CHECKED]

I've spent a few hours on it this afternoon even researching several sources... was hoping that someone here may have some insight...

[crys] [prays] [another shot of aftershock]

Thanks in advance all... back to experimenting....

Try checking the box " always use MME interface, even when WDM are available". Then run your wave profiler and see what happens. And then post back the results.

Is ACPI turned on? The Audigy drivers can't handle that, results in the behaviour you mentioned...

If it appears to be turned on, reinstall your PC as a normal PC instead of ACPI. Should solve your problem.

Apply Dither: [CHECKED]

I'm not realy sure, but have you tried unchecked it ?

And FYI, our own Pedullist & BluesMeister are ones of Home Studio best tweaker. They seemed to know how to tweak many setting of Cakewalk Home Studio to runs smooth. I'm sure they'll show up and help you out here...

Aaaah, hit by 8 minutes...

Seems like Pedullist has shown up faster than me... :D
Oh... yeah, take a look at your Control Panel, and watch out if your Audigy shares a same IRQ with other devices in your system. It could be a problem (Not only for Home Studio, but all your audio apps). Try to have it's own IRQ... (Dunno the detail, I don't run Win2K here :) ).

This one is pretty interesting:

After installing the SONAR demo and running a few tests, I found out that the Waveprofiler in HS2002 is screwed up.

In HS2002, after running the profiler, the DMA buffer settings are:

[SB Audigy Audio FFE0 (1 in, 3 out)]
WDM.0=256 512 512 512
WDM.1=256 512 512 512
WDM.2=441 512 512 512
WDM.3=480 512 512 512
WDM.4=512 512 512 512
WidePacking=0
Audio hardware has been successfully profiled.

In SONAR the DMA buffer settings are:

[Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) (1 in, 3 out)]
WDM.0=256 550 960 960
WDM.1=256 660 960 960
WDM.2=441 882 960 960
WDM.3=480 960 960 960
WDM.4=960 960 960 960
WidePacking=0
Audio hardware has been successfully profiled.

Aside from the name, the buffers are completely different.

Now that I've changed the HS2002 settings to the ones that have been profiled by the SONAR profiler, my latencyproblems when using the WDM drivers have been........drumroll.........SOLVED!

In your case, JustAWannaBe....since you're using Audigy2 you can't copy my settings (I have an Audigy1) so download the SONAR demo and run the SONAR Waveprofiler yourself. Check the aud.ini from SONAR, WDM section (it looks like the stuff with the numbers I posted above)...then copy the section and paste/replace it in the HS2002 aud.ini

Could solve your problems also....

sorry for the delay in reponse I had figured it out and was droppin some riddums...

I hadn't even checked this post until just now... forgot about it til i checked my email.. :D

The summary is of course you are all right....

Latest versions of Audigy 2 drivers including WDM update causes certain issues with SP3 and various other things... (mainly my setup)... some users don't have the same issues with different southbridge and northbridge chips....

ACPI was turned on out of no where.... BIOS setting reverted.... without me noticing... [Should lay off the sauce...] which means my cmos battery might be giving way i'll be looking into that tomorrow...

The wave profiler is all out of whack in HS2002 compared to Sonar, discovered that as well however that's what led me to the disocvery of the new driver issues....

Well thanks again for the help katz... off to the dealers (read audio and computer stores) tomorrow to score some parts and possible rack pieces....

Take care...

Hey Pedulist, that is an interesting fact you discovered there. Will I have the same problem if I use a Delta 66 card? Or is it only the audigy DMA buffer settings?

Download the SONAR demo and try it, Paul!

I'm curious as you are... :)

Great idea Pedullist! I think I'll also have to give this a try.

Presumably CakeWalk are aware of this Wave Profiler issue and have bent over backwards to resolve it. And they've contacted all registered users of HS2002.

No?

Hmm. Didn't think so. :(

They 'thanked me for the info...

I said: at least put it in the FAQ, but of course they didn't.

Pedullist,

Do you have any idea what the figures mean? In the SONAR Wave Profiler results, the first column after the names look like they may be sampling rates (44.1, 48.0, 96.0) I'm not sure about 25.6 though.

The next columns don't seem to follow any logical pattern but may also be sampling rates - but associted with what precisely???

My brain's beginning to hurt...

I'll D/L the SONAR demo this evening and give it a burl. :)

This Is Bizarre - Utterly Bizarre!

Well I'm completely baffled... This is not what I was expecting at all :(

Wave Profiler results from HS2002:
[EWX 24/96 Wave Analog (2 in, 2 out)]
Name=EWX 24/96 Wave Analog
WDM.0=110 110 82 82
WDM.1=220 220 165 165
WDM.2=441 441 330 330
WDM.3=480 480 360 360
WDM.4=960 960 720 720
WidePacking=2
WavePipe=1
Interleave=2
NT.0=33 33 33 33
NT.1=66 66 66 66
NT.2=132 132 132 132
NT.3=144 144 144 144
NT.4=288 288 288 288

[EWX 24/96 WaveRec Mixer (1 in, 1 out)]
Name=EWX 24/96 WaveRec Mixer
WDM.0=110 110 82 82
WDM.1=220 220 165 165
WDM.2=441 441 330 330
WDM.3=480 480 360 360
WDM.4=960 960 720 720
WidePacking=2
WavePipe=1
Interleave=2
NT.0=33 33 33 33
NT.1=66 66 66 66
NT.2=132 132 132 132
NT.3=144 144 144 144
NT.4=288 288 288 288

Wave Profiler results from SONAR Demo:
[AudioSystem EWX 24/96 (3 in, 3 out)]
Name=EWX 24/96 Wave Analog
WDM.0=110 110 82 82
WDM.1=220 220 165 165
WDM.2=441 441 330 330
WDM.3=480 480 360 360
WDM.4=960 960 720 720
WidePacking=2

So, not only are SONAR's Wave Profiler results the same as HS2002, but the HS results are far more comprehensive.

What do you make of this Pedullist?

Errrrrrr.....Cakewalk support once told me that the way HS2002 handles audiocards and their drivers is TOTALLY different compared to SONAR.

To be honest: I have no idea how it all works.

Why don't you mail Cakewalk support and ask them about this? (they'll go nuts I assume, someone from Australia who as as nerdy as that annoying little fella from the Netherlands)

So that statement may be slightly erroneous. I still have no idea what the figures actually mean.

And furthermore, Brzilian once posted (at least, I think it was him) that HS2002 is really SONAR 1 with a new name.

So at the end of this exercise we're no more enlightened. :( I may just e-mail Cakey support as you suggest. That should set the cat amongst the pigeons. :)

Still waiting for Paul881 to get back to us though.

Earth to Paul881, come in Paul881. Do you read? Over...

Receiving you loud and clear:D

But I haven't had chance yet to d/l Sonar onto my lap top, so no story to tell. I don't know if I will have chance this week.:(

Interesting though, I thought HS2002 used the same engine as Sonar, so you would have expected the WDM settings to be the same?:confused:

These are the settings for HS2002 using the mobo Soundmax audio (currently disabled, also, I use win 98 on my DAW so wdm drivers not really relevent):

[SoundMAX Digital Audio (1 in, 3 out)]
Name=SoundMAX Digital Audio
WDM.0=110 480 480 480
WDM.1=220 480 480 480
WDM.2=441 480 480 480
WDM.3=480 480 480 480
WDM.4=480 480 480 480
WidePacking=0
WavePipe=1
Interleave=2

[DriverMap.WDM]
UseWaveOut1=1
UseWaveOut2=1
UseWaveOut3=1
UseWaveIn1=1
MonitorWaveIn1=0
